THE SPRING SEASON BEGINS

The volunteer members of the Knightwind Ensemble are back from a well-deserved break for the Holidays. Rehearsals are underway for our next concert, Transitions, on Sunday March 21, 2010.

The final concert of this season is the annual Pops concert on Memorial Day, May 31, at the Milwaukee County Zoo.

NEW DIRECTOR SEARCH UNDERWAY

Upon the retirement of our longstanding conductor, John H. Steinke, the Knightwind Ensemble is currently under the interim direction of Don Glassel, Associate Conductor, while we search for a new music director throughout the spring concert season. Applications for the music director position can no longer be accepted, as the interview process has already begun.

The Ensemble wishes to thank Mr. Steinke for his dedication to our growth over the last thirty two years into what has become Milwaukee's premiere wind ensemble. Without his vision, programming, and preparedness, we would not enjoy the level of performance we have achieved. We will forever be grateful.

AUDITIONS:

There are limited openings for percussionists. However, everyone is welcome to audition and will be considered. Click here for more audition information.

KNIGHTWIND ENSEMBLE AWARDED THE SUDLER SILVER SCROLL

The John Phillip Sousa Foundation awarded the Knightwind Ensemble their Sudler Silver Scroll Award in December 2005. This is the highest honor that a North American community band can achieve. Of the many thousands of community bands eligible for the award, only 34 groups have been selected to receive it. The Knightwind Ensemble is proud to be one of those 34 groups! More information on the Sudler Silver Scroll Award is available here.

PLAY AN INSTRUMENT? ENJOY CHALLENGING MUSIC?
The Knightwind Ensemble holds regular auditions at the beginning of each season. Although most sections are currently full, from time to time openings do occur. If you would like to play and are interested in auditioning, click here for details.

WHO ARE WE?
The Knightwind Ensemble is an adult Milwaukee (WI) Area musical group that traces its roots back to 1956. The group is composed of about 55 musicians from all walks of life, who volunteer their time for the love of music.

The Knightwind Ensemble consistently performs challenging music of the highest quality. In 1989, the Ensemble commissioned and performed the World Premiere of "IMPRINTS" by Timothy Mahr. In addition, the group has regularly performed new and significant works, including several area premieres.

OUR MISSION:
The mission of the Knightwind Ensemble is to foster, encourage, and develop the appreciation of wind music. It provides the means and facilities to afford qualified musicians the opportunity to participate in a musical organization for the cultural enrichment of the community.
