  • A map of Germany in the borders of 1917.

The area just a little East of Berlin covers many of the cities and towns where my early ancestors lived. The map is from The New Encyclopedic Atlas And Gazetteer Of The World, edited and revised by Francis J. Reynolds, P.F. Collier and Son - Publishers, New York, 1917 Edition.

Note: See the University of Texas' Perry-Castaņeda Library Map Collection for other historical or current maps.

  • A full listing of the descendants of one Barthelmes Köppel, the oldest documented ancestor of mine, who was listed as the owner of a house in 1660, in the town of Küstrin in the Neumark. Note: the map on the left spells Küstrin as Cüstrin. To find Cüstrin go straight East from Berlin, until you find the Oder river, then a tiny bit to the North. This listing is current in most cases up to about 1965. In the case of my own immediate family, it is current until about 1999.

  • A partial family tree, showing only my own ancestors and no other branches of my family, is provided in two versions:
    1. A multi-page partial tree is available from this link: familytree/index.htm .  It can be viewed, navigated, and printed page by page using web browsers.
    2. A two-page tree is available in this file: PKTREE.DVI .  It is probably best viewed when printed.

    3.
      • To read the file, you will need to install a DVI viewer on your system, unless you have a Tex/LaTex system installed already. Tex is a high quality typesetting system, invented by Prof. D. Knuth, and is widely used in scientific/technical publishing. If you are not familiar with Tex, and wish to learn more, start here: http://www.tug.org/ .Tex/LaTex implementations are available for almost any computer platform currently available, and depending on the platform, you may find either shareware/freeware and/or commercial implementations.
      • Potential resources for DVI Viewers:
Additional information exists for the Lathrop and Drew portions of the tree, which is not shown here.
