Game 1 – Ladera 3,
Culver City 0
With strong pitching and timely hitting, the Ladera
9/10 All Star team got off on the right foot in the District 25 All Star Tournament
with a 3-0 victory over Culver City.
Starting pitcher, Grant Craddolph, was outstanding
on the mound for Ladera. In 5 innings of shut
out work, he struck out 10 and allowed no hits. He also participated in a
double play with Derek Marshall at first base to end the 5th inning.
Grant was relived on the mound by Gary McCoy who went 2/3 of an inning with 2 strikeouts and Dominic Johnson who through 1 pitch to earn a strikeout and
the save.
Defensively, Ladera was led by Arron Greenfield behind the
plate. Arron recorded 13 put outs and an assist
on a great throw to Gary covering second base to nail a runner attempting to
steal. Blake "Do Work" White also stepped up and snagged
a sharply hit ball to shallow left field. Derek also recorded a put
out at first base.
Ladera scored 3 runs on 8 hits. Kyle Thompson led the way going 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Dominic
went 2-2 and scored a run. Second baseman Jaylon Mclaughlin
went 1-2 and scored a run. Kaelin Woodard contributed a huge
RBI line drive to left field and scored a run. Gary had the remaining hit for Ladera.
Culver City
received a strong complete game pitching performance from Garrett Doff.
Game 2 – Ladera 10, Wrigley 0
Ladera stayed alive in the winner's bracket on
Monday with a 10-0 mercy victory over Wrigley. The game featured solid
pitching, stingy defense, aggressive base running, and clutch hitting.
Gary McCoy got the start on the mound for Ladera. Gary
completed a 4 inning no hit shut out. He struck out 5 and walked 5.
He was backed by the stellar defense of Jaylon Mclaughlin
at second base who recorded 2 put outs and 2 assists. Catcher Arron Greenfield was also solid
throwing out a batter attempting to steal second. Grant Craddolph recorded 2 puts
and 2 assists, and Derek Marshall recorded 3 put outs at first.
Offensively, the team collected 10 runs on 10 hits and benefited from 3
errors. Gary
went 3-3, scored 2 runs and collected an RBI with well placed
bunts. Jaylon went 2-3 and scored 2
runs. Arron had a monster day at the plate with
2 hits, 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Lawrence "Cadillac" Gilliam contributed a double
to deep left field and scored a run. Grant went 1-3 with an RBI
single. Derek also contributed a hit, a run and an RBI. Robert Togia drove in the 10th
run to complete the mercy on a mishandled ball to first base.
Ladera dropped a close one to Culver Marina in a battle of
undefeated teams on Sunday. They will face Malibu in an elimination game on Tuesday at 5:15 PM
Ladera ended their tourney run with an 11-1 loss to Malibu.
