FEBRUARY 17TH
7:30 - 10ish

E32 is pleased to

forgo any pretense of curatorial trajectory, theoretical imperative or conceptual overview in lieu of just getting a show together for February. Why? Because, the occasional decent day aside, February is a loathsome month and we need some fun. So join us for the artists' TV party that is E32.

Carmen Einfinger "tells all" about dealing with the Chinese public art bureaucracy while covering a shipping container with specially knitted tea cozy.

Barbara Lubliner explains her heavy, welded, rolling, tumbling, noisy, rattle sculptures...Toy-like, yes, but for adults since they could give a child a concussion.

Tony Feyer will lure you in and slap you back with his beautifully painted high art about low places.

Monique Ford brings painterly abstraction for your scopic delectation.

Jamie M Lee offers a fetching contrast with graphic abstractions in paper, glitter, fabric paint and more.

Hyo Jeong Nam will enthrall all with her amazing, intricate, site specific thread installations.

Jeffrey Cyphers Wright beguiles with graffiti-esque arabesques of East Village collage.

International contribution by English artists,

Alex Pearl with another installation from his Stargazers series and Anthony Elliott with Get a Job, a conceptual art in which sculpture is nearly a by product.

MUST I PAINT YOU A PICTURE - presents the work of ten artists, recent graduates of a master's program in illustration. It includes painters, printmakers, comic artists, book illustrators, sculptors, and draftsmen. The influences on their work are as diverse as their techniques. Some have found inspiration in our environment – in the faces, places, and phenomena of New York City. Some draw on cultural heritage, combining it with personal experience to produce new insight. And some use narratives, both invented and borrowed, to create deceptively simple interpretive art. In all cases, the work bridges the diminishing divide between illustration and fine art, relying on fine art traditions for media, theme, or presentation, yet maintaining an emphasis on storytelling and communication. By treating fine art and illustration as complementary, we hope to broaden the scope of both genres, and in doing so ask, "must we paint you a picture?" -- Rachel Burgess

VISUAL VULNERABILITES: deals with the vulnerability inherent in every journey whether that journey is psychological, spiritual and physical.

PAINTINGS AS DISCLOSURE - Kylie Heidenheimer, Allen Hansen, Laura Via and Robert Kingston, all - on their own terms - explore the physicality of paint. While working within a limited format, these artists exemplify personal and diverse vocabularies that are resonant and uniquely theirs.

COLOR, SURFACE & GEOMETRY: Abstraction at it's most basic deals with color, surface and form. But Abstraction risks being merely decorative unless it has some higher content. Often discussions of painterly Abstraction incorporate philosophical or spiritual systems but spirituality is in the inner eye of the beholder. This discussion is less often applied to Geometric art but Geometries, decorative and Sacred, have their roots in pre-history and remain meaningful today.
