A photo of some intermediate group members taken at the 1996 Carbo Bash in Dr. Scaff's house. Notice the beautiful carved wooden rocking horse that resides in the living room.
A group picture taken at the Carbo Party in 1998. The Carbo Party gives the group leaders a chance to go over marathon morning strategy and to quell any anxiety attacks that students might be having on the Friday before the marathon. It is also a chance to see everyone when they are not sweaty, grimy, covered with sun screen and looking like death warmed over. A familiar phrase heard during the party is "I didn't recognize you with your clothes on!"
Olympian Frank Shorter and Donna (Mrs. Jack Scaff) do a pre-Marathon dance to chase away evil spirits at Dr. Scaff's Carbo party in 1999. An Olympic hero with Gold and Silver Medals and a premier long distance athlete, Frank Shorter is claimed to be the inspiration for the running boom in the United States.
Staff group leaders and students alike relax and celebrate an end to the long hours of training and look forward to the upcoming challenge.
Groups leaders celebrate at Dr. Scaff's carbo bash on the Friday night (December 8, 2000) before the Honolulu Marathon. The Carbo Party marks the end of the 9-month long training season for the Honolulu Marathon Clinic group leaders, with the actual running of the Honolulu Marathon being the graduation exercise for their students. The parties are always well attended, and you never know who you might bump into.

Come join us for a run in paradise.
