My immediate ancestors lived in Monona and Woodbury counties, located in west-central Iowa between Onawa and Sioux City near the Missouri River. This is the area in which the Pullen, Smith, Olson, Peterson, Cassady, Holmes, Pike, and Whiting Families married.

My first Pullen ancestor to reach America was Nicholas Pullen of Rehoboth, Mass. Nicholas was born in 1683 and was christened in Widworthy Parish, Devon, England. My direct branch of the Pullen family went from Massachusetts>Maine>Iowa and settled in Monona County Iowa.

My Whiting Family has been in the United States since the 1630's. They settled in Dedham, Massachusetts. From Dedham, my Whiting family migrated to New York>Ohio>Monona County, Iowa and settled in an area known as “The Whiting Settlement”.

My Olson family immigrated from Norway and my Peterson family immigrated from Sweden and they settled in the Albaton area of Monona county in the mid 1800's.
