About the Chef
Cynthia Shaw

My professional cooking career began 17 years ago in the kitchen of a busy metro New York catering company. It was a family run operation, with a sound reputation and a lot of business. I gained a great deal of experience in both the front and back of the shop, doing everything from slicing and dicing, to menu planning and staffing events and administration. A few years flew by, and before I knew it, I had partnered up with a friend, and we started our own catering business called Garden of Eating. One client led to another, which led to two more, and our catering business was off and running. It was a fast-paced, hectic lifestyle, full of delicious food, fun-filled creative events, and a variety of interesting clients. A necessary move to another state put an end to a five-year catering career and gave me the opportunity to test the waters on the other end of the catering table—planning and coordinating special events for academic institutions. Thirteen years later and with thousands of events under my exhausted feet, I began to feel the irresistible pull back to the kitchen.

For the past few years, I have heard rumblings about a rising industry, a service that provides a dining alternative for busy people who didn’t have the time or the inclination to prepare delicious, healthy meals for themselves or their families. The concept of working with people to plan wonderful, personalized menus, shopping for the freshest foods available, and getting back into the kitchen to prepare them was finally too tempting to resist. I joined the ranks as a Personal Chef by graduating from the United States Personal Chef Institute and started my business called WHAT’S COOKING in Saratoga Springs, New York.
