Changing Backgrounds
- This used to be much easier for my Theme, but I've converted all the BMP files into JPEG files to save on hard-drive space.
- So what you need to do with my JPG backgrounds is get a hold of a program called L-View Pro to convert the images from JPG to BMP.
- Once converted, you need to put the BMP backgrounds into your Windows Directory (Normally C:\Windows\).
- Then you can right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select Properties.
- Finally, Select the background you want from the list.
- NOTE: Only Plus! Pack users can stretch the background bitmap to fit the screen.
- Additionally, Plus! Pack users can simply install my Desktop theme using the Setup.Bat program I provide and Plus! will convert the JPG to BMP automatically.

Changing Desktop Icons for Plus! Pack users.
- Right-click on an empty space on the desktop and select Properties.
- Click on the Plus! tab.
- Select the Desktop Icon you wish to change, then click on Change Icon.
- For Themes with a collection of .BMP or .ICO files, Select Browse, and Point the Open file dialog to the Icon file you wish to use.
- For my theme (which uses a .DLL to store all the Icons) point the Browse to "Ultima Icons.Dll" (type in the name if you have to) and choose one of the icons inside.
HOT TIP!
- Windows 95 lets you use BMP files as icons, also. The only requirement is that the size of the bitmap is 32x32 pixels. To force Windows 95 to look for .BMP files, you must change the "Files of Type"box to "All Files (*.*)."

Changing Desktop Icons for Everyone Else.
- The Easiest way to change these icons is to get a copy of MicroAngelo from Impact Software.
- Microangelo will not only let you change the "My Computer", "Recycle Bin", and "Network Neighborhood" icons, It will let you change the icons in the Start Menu, the icons for folders, hard drives, and more!
- To change the Desktop icons without that program is beyond the scope of this document, but more information can be found at Windows 95 Annoyances page. It's in the Configure, Configure, Configure area.
- I'm unsure, but I think 256 color icons are Plus! pack only. Could someone verify this for me?

Changing the Startup and Shutdown Screens
- The startup screen is located in the root directory of the Win95 Boot drive (usually C:). It is called Logo.Sys.
- There are 2 shutdown screens both located in your Windows 95 directory. One is called Logow.Sys which is displayed while you wait for the computer to shut down. The other is called Logos.Sys which is displayed when the computer is ready to be turned off.
- The image you wish to use must be 320 pixels wide and 400 pixels tall.
- It must be 256 colors and saved as an uncompressed BMP file.
- Copy the file you want to use as a startup screen to LOGO.SYS
- Copy the file you want to use as a "Please Wait. Shutting Down" screen to LOGOW.SYS
- Copy the file you want to use as a "Turn Off Computer" screen to LOGOS.SYS
- The next time you restart, you'll see the new startup and shutdown screens!
IMPORTANT!!
- Be sure you backup the original Logo.Sys, Logow.Sys and Logos.Sys files if want to switch back to them!
- Some people have reported that they don't have any Logo.Sys files in their root directory. If this is the case, simply copy the files as explained above. Windows will find them and use them.
