We held our most recent conference on Saturday February 28, 2009
at Cedar Valley College, 3030 N. Dallas Ave., Lancaster,TX
We will hold our next conference on Saturday February 27, 2010; information will be posted here in December 2009.

This program is organized by the Southwest Dallas County Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW). For information, contact Penny Ball at 972 - 709 - 1957 or penny @ acm.org.
[Cedar Valley College is the host site but they are not the organizers of the program.]

This website has the registration information for the Feb.2009 event, plus photos from the student workshops for the years 2004 through 2009.
Select DOCUMENTS from the menu on left to access these items.

Summary of information for Feb. 2009:
The fee is $4 per person (student or adult) for registrations received by Jan.31,
and $5 for registrations received from Feb. 1 - 18.
Registrations after Feb. 18 may be accepted for $6, but you must call to confirm that we have space available.
We require advance registration because the girls are pre-assigned to small group workshops.
Each student registrant is asked to select 6 workshops of interest, and she will be assigned to attend 3 of those.
All adult registrants attend the same adult program but must pre-register so that we can have enough copies of the conference materials.

To see the list of workshops scheduled, select "Student Workshops" or "Adult Workshops" from the menu on the left.
These are also listed in the registration brochure that is available for downloading from the DOCUMENTS page.

Pictures from past conferences, a poster/flyer and the registration documents are available from "DOCUMENTS" (on the left-hand menu).

This conference is made possible by the work of volunteers from the American Association of University Women, Southwest Dallas County Branch (AAUW-SWDC), and Alpha Zeta Omicron, the Cedar Valley College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Student Honor Society. Its success also depends on the many women who volunteer their time to present the workshops.

However, we need to enroll some additional financial backers so that we can continue to offer the same full program without increasing the student registration fee. A 9-page "Information Packet for Potential Financial Supporters" is available here.

Each year, approximately 100 groups nationwide offer Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conferences to introduce girls to career options that are available to those who continue their education, especially in fields that use math, science, or technology. You can learn more about the national programs at www.eyhnet.org.

Why should you attend? What will you gain from the conference?

Girls:

.. Learn about career opportunities in a variety of fields from women who are working in those fields.
.. Attend 3 hands-on workshops and learn about some of the things these women do on the job. Sample a field that interests you already or try one that you know nothing about.
.. No grades - no previous knowledge needed - just an opportunity to try something different. You may be surprised at what you can do.
.. Discover that math and science activities can be exciting, interesting, and fun. Most rewarding careers today require some knowledge of math and science. The time to get started is now, before you get to high school and college.

Adults:

.. Enjoy an opportunity for discussions with professionals about issues related to encouraging young girls in their studies and lives.
.. Talk with other parents, teachers, and youth group leaders about any issues of concern to women and girls.
.. Receive a packet of resource materials developed by the national organization that coordinates the Expanding Your Horizons conferences. These materials include ideas for home activities and references for information sources about many careers.
