SCBA Trak Customer Support -- Tech Note #4
Moving SCBA Trak to a new computer.

SUMMARY
How to move SCBA Trak from an old computer to a new one and have it work.
PROCEDURE
1. Find the latest diskette you were sent, whether it is an upgrade diskette or the original diskette that has your name on the label.
Note: This procedure will be a lot easier if you have version 2.6x or later. These versions came with a SETUP.EXE program to automatically install the program and set it up for use with Microsoft Windows.
2. Start the program on the old computer and make sure you are using the same version as shown on the diskette label. The version number is shown on the opening screen and also in the lower left corner of most screens. DO NOT install a later version on the new computer and expect to move the files over. BOTH computers MUST be running the same version for the move to work.
3. If the versions are the same, place a floppy in the disk drive and make a new set of backup files by using the SCBA Trak "Copy..." function on the main menu. When finished, remove the backup diskette and label it.
4. Un-write protect the SCBA Trak floppy by moving the little door so the door is blocking the hole.
5. Place the SCBA Trak floppy in the diskette drive of the old computer.
6. In the SCBA Trak program folder (usually C:\SCBATRAK), locate a file named SCBATRAK.REG and copy it to the SCBA Trak floppy. This can be done with Windows Explorer or from a DOS Prompt.
7. Remove the SCBA Trak floppy from the drive and slide the little door to open the hole. This will "write-protect" the floppy to prevent it from being accidentally erased.
8. Place the SCBA Trak floppy in the drive of the new computer and install it by running SETUP.EXE for computers with Windows or by running INSTALL for computers hat do not have any version of Windows installed.
Note: If you're installing version 2.6x or later, the SETUP program will automatically install a Start Menu item and a desktop icon.
9. If you're not using SCBA Trak version 2.6x or later, you must now copy the file named SCBATRAK.REG from the floppy to the SCBA Trak program folder on the new computer. Versions 2.6x and later automatically copy the file for you.
10. Start SCBA Trak on the new computer and answer the various setup questions.
11. Once you get to the main menu, insert the backup floppy into the drive and use the "Restore..." function to install your data files on to the new computer. When asked, select "Restore all of the data files" and answer "NO" to the question about whether you want backup files created.
12. If you have been using the query system, and have saved queries you would like to move, you must do this manually. The query system files are not saved with the data file backups.
In the old program folder, copy all of the files beginning with the letter Q to a floppy. Put the floppy in the new computer and copy them to the new program folder. Allow the files on the floppy to replace (or "overwrite") the existing files.
13. Enjoy our new computer!
