SCBA Trak Customer Support -- Tech Note #6

I'm getting a red box with an error message containing the words "Corruption Detected" and it says to call you because it may be a bug.

Applies to: All versions
Last updated: Wednesday October 25, 2000.

SUMMARY

There are a number of things that can cause this message. The most common problem is a damaged database file. The damage almost always occurs when the program is running and the computer is shut off, either intentionally by someone hitting the power switch, or inadvertently due to a power or network failure. Do not shut down the computer with SCBA Trak or SCBA BOSS still running. You are asking for problems. Versions 2.6 and later have a built-in feature that can correct the most common type of damage: damage to the file containing the typed-in maintenance Notes information.

PROCEDURE

1.    Make sure you have a printer hooked up and turned on. A report will be automatically printed to show you which records had a damaged Notes file.

NOTE:    Although the following procedure can make the file usable again, any record that had a damaged Notes file will have permanently lost the Notes entries. All other entries for the affected record will be OK.

2.    If you have the latest version of the program, start it. When you're at the main menu (the blue screen), hold down the CTRL key, and while holding it down, tap the F1 key. If a red box pops up with instructions about fixing the Notes file, let it proceed and your file will be usable again. If you don't get the red instruction box, follow these steps:

a.    Get to a DOS prompt. In Windows 95 or later, you can click on Start, slide up to RUN and left click on it. Type in the word command and click OK.

b.    Change to the program directory. Normally this can be done by typing cd\scbatrak or cd\scbaboss and tapping the Enter key.

c.    When you're in the program directory, type scbatrak   /notefix and hit the Enter key (or type scbaboss   /notefix and hit the Enter key if using SCBA BOSS). This will bring up the red instruction box.

3. Let it proceed. Your file will be made usable again, and you'll get a printed report about which records lost their Notes entries. Either re-enter the Notes using backup paperwork, or retain the printed report for future reference.
