What these pages are all about.
I publish these page to help others and to share my 45+ years of model
railroading experience. Having built 5 layouts, with number 6 under construction,
using control systems from DC dual cab, analog command control, CMRI, and
now DCC, I feel I have some experience to share with you.
I made my first move to command control in the mid 80's with CTC16/e,
a PWM, or known as Analog Command Control system. In 1996 I moved
to DCC, I started with the Digitrax® Challenger system, then moved
up to the Big Boy. I now use the Digitrax® Chief.
Based on my experience with these system, a lot of the information found
here will be related to these. But as I find more info on other systems,
I will include them here.
No matter what DCC system you own, or might be thinking about buying,
I hope you find these pages interesting enough to make a book mark in you
browser and come back often.
What DCC is all about.
Digital Command Control DCC, really is the wave of the future to
come. This is not only because it is digital, but also because of the work
done by the NMRA on the DCC Standards and Recommended Practices. It is
because of these that we can take our decoder equipped locos and run them
on each others layouts. If you have had other type command control systems
you know what I mean. The number of DCC manufacturers are growing, there
are new products coming all the time. Yes DCC is here to stay for a good
while!
With DCC you will be able to run your trains more like the prototype
then you ever have before.
About Me.
Hello my name is Don Crano, I am 50+ years old. My loving wife's name
is Mary and has been with me for 31 years. And over this time has learned
that when married to a model railroad nut, there is no basement, it is
called a layout room. We have 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls, and
6 grandchildren. I have been model railroading since I was 8 years old.
I am a member of the NMRA #096211 and the DCC
SIG as well as several model railroad clubs..
By trade I am a professional model maker and work in motion control
tech support and design. My other hobbies include rail fanning, the computer,
and photography. One thing I can tell you, model railroading is a great
family hobby and has brought us a lot of fun over the years. Not to mention
the great people who I have meet and become friends with. And one thing
I always tell every one:
Remember Always Have Fun
and Enjoy!
