(While Bob was playing "Brasilia" at the 9:30, I just kept muttering "Holy shit, holy shit" to myself; when he finished, I half expected the people in the audience to stream out into the streets, get into their cars, and start driving around honking their horns like victorious World Cup fans.) One of the Trax personal highlights was getting Bob to play "Don't Fear The Reaper" during the fooling-around 70s medley ("More Than A Feeling," "You Shook Me All Night Long," more I'm forgetting) at soundcheck. ------------------------- From: Matthew Gray Okay.. .so my ears are going to ringggg for a few days. I didn't really have anything I needed to hear this weekend anyways. I was a little worried that the gathering at Trax last night (I believe it could be called "intimate") would be uninspiring for Bob and the boys after the packed house at the 9:30. But Bob came out and allayed my fears quickly. To start the show he said something along the lines of " Hey. Tonight it's casual.... It's like Ladies night.It's a party." He truly seemed to be in a fine humor. As one who was unable to attend the apparently monumental DC show, I have to say that I thought last night was great. Hearing TLDAPS songs live really brought the album home for me. Personally I would have taken "Sweet Serene" and "Who Was Around" over "Vaporub" and "Classifieds" but I don't get to make those kind of decisions. :^) They ripped through a great version of "New #1". High points: Hanging Tree: Crushingly powerful. I understand Bob's desire to "End it on a high note" with the bright "See A Little Light". But I thought this was just stunning and a great way to put the wraps on the electric Bob experience. Anymore Time Between: I don't recall hearing a soul make a noise, but then I'm still not hearing people talk today so..... This one is just killer live. Even when it's quiet it's ferocious and when it builds.... wow. Art Crisis: Bouncing and rocking all over the damn place. Much fun. The much mentioned transition to Eternally Fried was great to watch and the song itself was lovely. ----------------------------- From: Brett Groves Not much to add to Matt's review. I wasn't sure about the crowd last night, but they must've been pretty cool...when Bob got done with "Eternally Fried" and said the band was moving on to the last part of the set, everyone screamed NOOOO, as I yelled 'Brasillia' with all the lungs I could muster. Hell, who am I to complain, I was like a kid at his first major league baseball game last night. I got to see the oh so famous Bob Mould 'roll of the eyes' in "Art Crisis". And was just about drained after "Anymore..." A highlight for me was just seeing the smile on Bob's face throughout the show. Especially during "See A Little Light". He really enjoyed that one, so much so that he said 'perfect' when he finished. I was lucky enough to meet Bob after the show. (I only had to wait 15 minutes!) Got my 'Hubcap' insert signed and talked for a minute or so. (Matt, I thanked him from the both of us for playing "New #1") He seems really optimistic about his futute output. One last thought: I never really liked "Lonely Afternoon" or "Disappointed" much before the show, but loved the live versions of them. Especially LA, man that sounded just awesome in the electric format. Beats the heck out of the album version. ------------------------------ From: Kermit Though the crowd was a bit sparse, it was a great show. He seemed to be relaxing after the onslaught that was DC. Responding to the audience, he indicated he knew the DC show rocked. His fave maybe?? He was very conversational, taking time to talk about all the band members. No Brasillia, but I wouldn't have expected it anyway. Someone else may have a set list, but pretty much the same set, just played a bit looser. A great follow-up to DC.
