Collecting:

Late in the series I tried with mixed results to record as many of the shows as possible when I got my first stereo cassette recorder. That was really the beginning of my collecting and my fascination with preserving the show for others to enjoy for many years to come! I began recording shows in the fall of 1979 and recorded two dozen shows as they originally aired. The commercials were edited out so I could fit 2 shows on a 90 minute cassette. I wish I had included all the original news breaks and commercials. I've found that they are just as entertaining to listen to as the shows. Since then I have collected hundreds of the 1,400+ shows in MP3 format. The sound quality varies widely, but most are in fairly good shape. If you are interested in trading, please contact me. I will send you a reply email containing information on what you need to do! Collecting the CBS Radio Mystery Theater is only a hobby for me. I don't profit from the shows in any way. I'm very sorry, but my collection is not for sale. Thank you for your understanding!

Episode Trivia

WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT A SHOW IN THIS MONTHS LINEUP

Himan BrownWhile some fans of old-time radio may judge CBSRMT as inferior to similar shows from the past, such as Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Suspense and The Mysterious Traveler, which were produced in a 30-minute format, such comparisons must take into account the sheer prodigiousness of production by Himan Brown and his players. At the rate of one show per day, it would take nearly four years to listen to each of the 1399 hour-long episodes of CBSRMT. (Source: CBSRMT Wiki)

About Me:

I have been a fan of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater and a collector of the show for almost 30 years! I have created this website for the dedicated fans of radio dramas. Listen to one of the greatest radio mystery shows of all time...The CBS Radio Mystery Theater! I remember as a kid listening to the shows in my bed at night. They were broadcast each night on the local AM station in Syracuse, NY. I remember hearing the show for the very first time back in the late 70's. It was very exciting to hear the creaking door of the Mystery Theater each night along with the scary music playing and the spooky voice of E. G. Marshall narrating the show, especially as I hid in my bed under the covers with the lights out! I looked forward to each chilling episode! This was a unique experience for me! I was a part of the "TV generation" and I often wonder how these shows could have competed with all the live action shows on television at the time. I truly believe that the shows were so special to me because they forced me to use the power of my imagination. The stories were wonderful, exciting and very well written. And the acting was class A - superb!
