There are laws allowing medical marijuana in 16 states and Washington, D.C.,

Nearly five million current and former troops and their family members had their data stolen from a military contractor in September, putting them at risk for identity theft.
The Date of Sept 16 previously set by congress as AMERICAN LEGION DAY was changed by "Presidential Proclamation, to -- National POW/MIA Recognition Day, 2011" on Sept 15, 2011; for as written; just one day; "NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim September 16, 2011, as National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and I urge all Americans to observe this day of honor and remembrance with appropriate ceremonies and activities."
I applaud the Prez for his Proclamation (read full statement) and don't mind him using the date congress had set aside for our day. But, just one days notice is complete BULLSHIT to properly "observe this day of honor and remembrance with appropriate ceremonies and activities." Just one more half assed attempt to garner support from veterans for re-election.
*NOTE* I personally hate having to choose between anybody the DNC or RNC has offered to represent us to the world. I find NO endearing qualities in any candidate and cast no support in any direction. I am equally displeased with all politicans at this point, but we must commit ourselves to do our duty and VOTE. It's like all the wars we've been in since the sixties. We have to fight, but who's the enemy? Author

The National Veterans Legal Services Program and their pro bono co-counsel, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, hit a homerun with a historic class action lawsuit settlement for disabled veterans who served in Afghanistan and Iraq. As a result, thousands of veterans who were medically discharged because of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) between 2003 and 2008 will finally receive the benefits to which they are legally entitled but had been denied, praise also goes to Pfizer, the pharmaceutical firm, which provided free legal counseling to veterans who sought to opt into the lawsuit.

Questions have been raised about the "Veteran" designation to be added to the NC Drivers License. The American Legion pushed for this to help Vets with ID to prove their service without the need of carrying a DD-214 with themselves. This can be used as proof of service to obtain veteran discounts at various stores as listed on this websites Service Officer Page.
