War does not determine who is right, war determines who is left.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, which is why there are no girls
allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE ?

Topics of conversation included mutual aid between Posts and Riders Chapters.  Rivalry between Posts can be good clean fun until Legion Programs have to take a back seat to the Drama of one-up-manship.  The Four Pillars come first, Childrens programs and Veterans Programs are better served without the hassle of keeping up with the Jones'.

I, as Dist Vice, am Membership Chair for the Dist and have to bring it up, even when I know each Post is doing it's level best or better in this time of not knowing what the future is going to bring and poverty is a stark reality to some.  You all have done more than I could expect, but I expect more from me.  I've contacted each Post for their non-renewal roster so that I could try one more time to bring them back in your groups.  As Dist Vice, no less is expected of me by Division and Dept., and I hope to fulfill my duties better in the upcomming year.  If I can be of any assistance, in any way, to any Post; please call.  JB

Agenda

Cmdr Albany visited Moyock Post 531 on 7/14 for a required annual inspection and report.  The Post has a good start on membership retention and recruitment.  Also, Post 531 was a sponsor for the 4th of July Parade in Currituck and has other activities planned for later in the year.  Post 531 Moyock received their Permanent Charter on Aug 8, with a Dedication ceremony at the Sligo Fire Dept.

Columbia is next on the list.

The first District 1 meeting of the season was August 15th at Post 223, Elizabeth City, at 1:00 pm.  A very good showing from posts in attendance, all doing well in membership retention and renewal.  Guests included Past Dept. Commander Dick Neville and Membership Chair Ron Ambrose and Dept Vice Commander Roz Whedbee.  Excellent meal was provided and all were warmly welcomed.
