REVIEW (On the
Lulu.com web site) -
Civil War
Campaigns of the 10th New York Cavalry, by Ron
Matteson
Dr.
Ron Matteson's
book is a well-researched, wonderful, easy read for any Civil-War
enthusiast,
not just those with a penchant for the cavalry. He masterfully weaves
overall
war events around a chronology of the Tenth New York Volunteer Cavalry
Regiment's movements throughout the eastern, battle theater in a tidy,
comprehensive way. The wealth of tables, maps, pictures, official
reports make
this a handy reference tool. Although his work is non-fiction, it has a
novel-like feel when Dr. Matteson shares his treasure trove of letters
between
his great-grandfather (the cavalryman) and family and friends. These
give us
insight into the emotional pulse and non-war happenings both at home
and on the
battlefront.
