Hope this may help and encourage another rescue to give a second chance in spite of a negative report in the pound.
by Gayle Weber

I received a call about a Chow in the pound who didn't seem to have much chance, since he had been described as a "fear biter" by the area breed specific rescue rep. who went to see him. The person who called me didn't think he was a biter--rather just terrified in the cage where he was confined.

We decided to give him a chance and although he needed to be carried to the car---(fearful of doorways, and fearful of people)---when I met her and went to meet him, I backed myself into her back seat where he was sitting, and began
talking to him and petting him.

He never gave any indication of nipping or biting, only showed great timidity which turned into appreciation for gentleness shown.

This young fellow has turned out to be the most innocently-sweet real-life "teddy bear" ever imagined. Totally lovable with other dogs, big and small, likes cats, treasures petting and attention and loves to climb onto your lap.

Yet, had we been put off by the note and turn down by someone else who described him as a "fear biter"-----this dear loving dog would never had been able to share his huge heart-full of love.

So please if you're ever in a similar position, listen with all the instincts your heart finds.
