Terrell's Island is a 1,183 acre wetland complex on the south shore of Lake Butte des Morts in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. This area consists of open water, wetlands, and about 600 acres of open water in a break wall containment area.
The Terrell's Island property was purchased in July 1998 by the Butte des Morts Conservation Club (BDMCC). The area was purchased to preserve the existing wetlands and restore aquatic vegetation in the 600-acre containment area.
The BDMCC is in the process of inventorying the plant and animal life that use the area. Since 1999, the Oshkosh Bird Club (OBC) has been assisting by surveying the birds that use the area. OBC members visit the area throughout the year and record all birds seen or heard. This includes an OBC fieldtrip to the area each spring and visits during OBC bird counts in December, May, and September.
A list of the birds observed at Terrell's Island is provided below. Any changes to the list should be forwarded to Tom Ziebell at 920-235-0326. You may also email Tom at cziebell@new.rr.com
