Parent Leader Meeting Minutes for March 3, 2006

Thanks to those that attended the meeting last Tuesday night. Here are the minutes:
Attendees: James Donaldson, Paul Waldrop, Susie Luttrell, Bob Craig, Millissa Mendiola, Lori Shoe, Brian Shoe, Amanda Short, Pam Harrison, Stacey Donaldson

Scouting for Food: Collected 500+ cans. Great job of coordinating Susie!

Blue & Gold:
- All felt it was a major success! Awesome job Mark Benton!
- Many commented that this was the best ceremony they’ve attended. Well Organized, Good Food, Well executed!
- James Donaldson received high compliments from the attending boy scout troops.
- Would have liked to see a program with all the scout’s names on it.
- It was stated that in the future, we need to have a committee of 6 adults to coordinate the event – or else cancel the event – it’s too big for 1 adult.

Blue & Gold rug incident:
- James and Stacey Donaldson donated $100 in the name of the Pack, to help sponsor the youth play that was put on at the Reform church this past week. Unanimous approval that the Donaldson’s be reimbursed from the Pack funds.
- The church is in process of receiving bids to replace the damaged rug. We do not yet know what the cost will be.
- There was a gracious offer to pay for the replacement of the damaged rug since they felt their son was at the center of the accident. Everyone felt this should not fall on any one scout, as it was an accident and could have easily occurred to any scout in the Pack. The offer was rejected.
- Question raised on whether we should ban candles from future events. Everyone thought this was a good idea due to risks. It was suggested that we could take the scout board and wire it to light up instead of using candles to light.

1st Annual Regatta: Mar 19, 3:00 pm
- The Regatta is at Willowcreek Park, just south of Park at 2101 Jupiter Rd.
- All boats were distributed at the Blue and Gold. Rules should have been distributed as well. Will send email on rules. See your den leader if you didn’t receive a boat.
- Voted yes to purchase regatta patches
- Since this will be our Pack meeting for March, we will hand out awards. Cubmaster will determine which ones to hand out separately. The remainder will be given to the den leader. Discussed handing out awards during the down times between races.
- Question on whether we want to sell hot dogs, chips and drinks. Millissa said she would organize this if she got some additional help. If it rains, there will be no food even though the Regatta will happen rain or shine.

Summer Camp:
- Requested forms to be turned in Feb 28.
- Mar 06 is the final Pack deadline. Contact Stacey Donaldson to arrange for delivery of the forms.
Spring Campout: April 21 through 23, at Oakland Park, at Lake Lewisville.
- Directions: take I-35E north about 25 miles. Exit #457A to Lake Dallas, Main Street. Go east for 3 miles to Westlake Park. Go 1 mile to Oakland Park.
- No daily fees; 10 people per site
- Reserved 17 sites so far
- Invited Pack 2055 and expect at least 3 families to join us
- Pack plans include: Easter Egg Hunt; Scouts Own Service on Sunday, incorporating all faiths; Campfire program
- Dens responsible for meals and planning den activities during free time
- Millissa to get with Amanda on Camp Fire Program and what’s been done in the past.
- Everyone needs to bring their own firewood – assuming the fire bad is lifted
- Extracurricular activities include volleyball and nature hikes
- Fee is $10 per family due at the March pack meeting on March 19

April 01 Plano Clean-up: Millissa coordinating this.
- 87 people were participating thus far, but have no response from 3 dens. Input was due Feb 28.
- Request for t-shirts to be turned in on Friday.

Elections for 2006-2007 will occur at the April 25th parent/leader meeting.
- James sent email on available positions with descriptions.
- Certain events, such as Blue and Gold and Pinewood Derby, require committees with representation from each Den.

Scout Show: May 13th - Bob Craig coordinating
- Discussed suggestions for what to do:
o Each level has to bring something
o Grisel has fishing game
o Box Hockey
o Planko board – could make at the campout.
- Need budget for prizes - $200 was a number that was proposed but not voted on yet
- More information to be provided at Mar 02 roundtable

Misc:
- Amanda found the Caroling patches and will distribute those at next Pack event (7 kids)
- On March 18th, 3 Packs will be conducting a pinewood derby. Paul and James to help them retrieve and setup the track. James to send email with additional information/needs.
- T-shirts – ordered 100 additional t-shirts. Hoping to have them by the next Pack event.
- Susie suggested doing a garage sale for future fundraising. Everyone thought this was a good idea. Suggested that June might be an appropriate time for this. Several offered their yards as they live on major streets.
