Roundtable Minutes for April 6, 2006


 
Thanks to those attending. Also thanks to James Donaldson for many Great Years. We will miss him!

Baby News:
- Congratulations to Andrea Bass, who had a baby boy last week
Plano Clean-up: Event held on April 1
- Great job Millissa Mendiola !
- 125 to 130 participants, including 15 girl scouts
- Concern expressed that we almost left a kid behind and alone at the event; Parent/leaders need to be make sure drop-off/pick-up times are clearly communicated; Leaders (and all parents) need to check the area to account for all scouts before leaving

Fundraisers: Susie Luttrell heading up committee
- The committee met and came up with the following ideas
· Sonic – Caroline Carithers can arrange this if needed
· Barnes & Noble Gift wrapping – Pam Harrison has contacts for this
· Bounce House at School Night for Scouting
· Bingo Night
· Phones and Ink Cartridges
· Oil for Kids – sell coupons for oil changes at Midas which includes Oil change, Tire Rotation, 15 pt engine check (4 for $40); 50% goes toward the fundraiser
· Camp Cookbook
· Silent Auction (sell tickets to Hawaiian Falls, Six Flags, etc)
· Meal Nights (Fuddruckers, Chick fil-a, Joe’s Crabshack, Cici’s, Covino’s)
· Sell candybars
· Down & Derby DVD – order, sell and return what doesn’t sell
· Garage Sale June 10th – location TBD
- Great list – need to narrow down and present the final proposal at the next parent/leader meeting

Spring Camp-out
- Great Success – thanks to Millissa Mendiola
- Comments on how well everyone cleaned-up
- No complaints from anyone
- Bathroom was too far from some campsites
- Everyone enjoyed the park – the kids loved the fishing and being able to go swimming
- Great location – easy to get to
- Interested in camping there in the future – maybe in the Fall; Sounded like responsibility/ownership for the Park may change

Scout Show: May 13 (Sat), 10am to 3pm, @ Market Hall
- Paul Waldrop needed more tickets – think that was taken care of.
- Prizes have arrived – checkerboards, rockets, whistles, sticky hands, back scratchers
- Recycle Plano providing a wheel with questions on recycling, as well as additional give-away items (pencils, etc)
- Need flags from the dens
- Setup either Friday night or Sat morning
- All tickets/cards and/or money needs to be turned in to Bob Craig by May 9th
- Committee approved funds to rent tables and chairs from the Scout show itself
- Need to get blue or gold tablecloths from Pam Harrison
- Need Volunteers to help setup/take down and support the booth during the day – Contact Bob Craig if you can help.

New Tigers
- Amanda has already contacted potential new Tigers and several are ready to join
- Plan to sign them up at the next Pack Meeting (May 9)
- District has not yet announced sign-up dates
- Amanda will invite them to the next Pack Meeting
- Want to be able to provide them with the list of summer activities by the next Pack meeting

Summer Day Camp
- Over 700 scouts signed up this year – higher percentage attending the morning vs evening camp
- District feels certain we will be audited, so all records need to be complete and on file
- All adult leaders/participants must have Youth Protection Training
- Need to provide James Donaldson proof of current YPT training (good for 3 yrs)
- If you don’t have the Youth Protection Training, then either take the online course or attend training on May 20th

Finances
- Current balance is $2,339.12
- Audit is scheduled for May 7 at 3 pm at Pam Harrison’s house. James Donaldson to identify participants (Pam, Lynne, Caroline, James, Paul, Troy ?)

Elections (2006/2007 Scout Year)
- All key positions identified
- Joyce Kimbrell requested to be pulled off the Webmaster ballot
- All positions approved by those attending
- Need to communicate final list to Pack (James ?)

Summer Activities:
- Susie Luttrell presented 15 potential ideas
- Committee agreed on 2 activities per month.
- Scouts needs to participate in 1 event per month in order to earn the summer patch
- Following is the list of approved activities with ptential dates. Details to be worked out on all and communicated as the date nears:
· June:
1. May 30 – Jun 02: Summer Camp
2. Jun 25: Raingutter Regatta (free event)
· July:
1. Jul 08: Bike and/or Hike (free event)
2. Jul 29: Burger’s Lake ($9.00 / person if 20 or more in group)
· August:
1. Aug 12: Back to School Pack Picnic (free event) – include volleyball and/or ultimate belt loop activities
2. Aug 26: Fair Park outing, possibly including the Dallas Aquarium, Science Place, Fire Fighters Museum; supports progress towards earning the Greater Dallas Historical Patch
- Other ideas listed here just for visibility/ideas for individual families or dens
· BSA National Museum ($5/scout or leader)
· Mesquite Rodeo ($10/adult, $5/scout) – see Susie Luttrell’s email regarding this event
· Steam & Railroad Museum ($5 per adult, $2 per scout)
· Harbin Museum at Camp Wisdom (Free)
· Frontiers of Flight Museum ($15 per adult, $8 per child)
· Dallas Zoo ($8.75 per adult, $5.75 per scout)
· Planetarium @ UTA ($3/person)

Misc:
- May Awards are due by May 02. Requests after that will not be purchased until the Sep Pack Meeting
- May Parent Leader Meeting moved to May 16 to avoid conflicts with Summer Camp; Troy to take care of reservations
- Pack Email – proposed changing the rules to allow leaders to send out broadcasts; to revisit at next P/L meeting
