Parent Leader Meeting Minutes for September 27, 2005
Attendees:

Finances:
-   $391.56 received from Sonic
-   $1203 received from dues
-   $3345.90 is current balance
-   $680 camping fees due (Falls campout)
SNFS
-   Troy Tatum did an awesome job. Everything ran smooth.
-   15 to 16 new kids became scouts
Feed the Firemen:
-   A huge success. The firemen were very pleased and appreciative. They didn’t know we were coming, but it worked out okay as they hadn’t worked out what they would be having for dinner that evening.
-   Thanks to all who brought something!
Sonic Fundraiser:
-   $391.56 raised on Sunday, Sep 25. Thanks to all that participated. Some people were there for the entire time.
-   Thanks to Caroline for setting this all up and spending a very long day there.
-   Decided that all participating scouts should receive a fundraiser patch
-   Caroline to talk with the Sonic manager about continuing with our planned Oct fundraiser. Sonic is looking to eliminate the Sunday fundraisers.
-   At future fundraisers, all helpers need to wear the same t-shirt so that they know who is helping and who is not.
Fall Campout:
-   Millissa and Grisel have organized.
-   Plans for pumpkin carving; trick or treating; decorate camp sight
-   Den 7 responsible for the Oct pack meeting. James to talk with Millissa regarding pack meeting / campfire program
-   Ask if canoes are allowed. Need to have someone trained (safe swim and safe float) – Harrison is trained. Parents are responsible for the safety of their child.
Popcorn: Lori Shoe responsible
-   Den leaders received the packets for their den. Let the sales begin!
-   All checks should be payable to Circle 10
-   All money and orders due Oct 24 (Monday). The den leader can turn in their den’s orders/money at the parent/leader meeting Oct 25.
-   Popcorn to be picked up Nov 14 (Monday).
-   Oct 31 – Sherri mentioned that the boy scouts have great success selling popcorn on Halloween. This is okay but would have to be a separate form from what is due Oct 24.
-   While selling popcorn, scouts can also ask for donations to the Katrina Relief Fund to earn a special patch.
Derby Movie:
-   The “Down and Derby” Movie will be available for special showings at the Stonebriar AMC Movie Center the week of Oct 7 – 13. Times are not yet posted.
-   No price breaks for large groups, so no organized showing for the Pack is scheduled
-   Several people are planning to attend Sunday, Oct 9 (times not yet available). Hopefully others will attend also.
Pack 2055
-   Pack 2055 is a small pack from a nearby mosque
-   They currently have 6 boys (3 tigers, 1 bear, 2 wolfs)
-   Agreed to include them in our pinewood derby, adding one additional race following the Pack 235 derby.
-   Discussed also inviting them to our Spring campout.
Troop 536
-   Sherri Smith attended from troop 536. She is the assistant scout master.
-   As part of her wood badge commitment she is looking to offer scout services from her troop for various 1 night programs. They can help with pack meetings, and badge requirements.
-   Following the meeting, we discussed having them attend the November Pack meeting, start the fire, discuss scout fire safety, and possibly perform a skit.

Pack T-shirts
-   Designs for the new pack t-shirt is due at the October Camp Out. Proposed having a station for the scouts to draw their design idea.
-   Design needs to be a 2 color design with the words Pack 235 and Plano on it
-   The winning design will be selected and announced at the campout.
-   Den leaders need to get pre-orders by size and turn in at the CampOut.
-   T-shirts will be $10 per shirt
Habitat for Humanity
-   In their next project to begin in early 2006, they are encouraging cub scouts and boy scouts to participate
-   3 opportunities to participate and assist approximately 25 workers
 1. serve snacks at 10:30 in the morning, Dates available are Dec 31, Jan 21, and Jan 28
 2. serve breakfast on Jan 21st from 7:30 to 8:30
 3. stock a pantry for a family at the house warming in April
-   Majority voted to serve snacks on Jan 28. James to pursue further. The Pack will need to provide the snacks
Misc:
-   Troy Tatum is now assistant committee chair!
-   James Donaldson attended the Wood Badge. As part of the wood badge, James is setting several goals to benefit the Pack. He is looking at 2 key opportunities:
 1. Organize and conduct a raingutter regatta at the April campout
 2. Conservation project TBD in 2006
-   Grisel Okichich, Pam Harrison and Millissa Mendiola visited a campsite (Clear Lake Park) at Lake Lavon. Amenities included clean showers, nearby pavilion, fishing pier, 23 sites and we could have the whole campsite. It does require booking up front for approx $700. To revisit at the October Parent/Leader Meeting. Can look at information by going to Reserve America website (under Texas lakes, Lake Lavon, Clear Lake Park)
-   Cindy Ladner brought up fundraisers by Barnes and Noble. At the holidays they provide free gift wrapping. Barnes and Noble provides the gift wrap, the Pack wraps the books and keeps all tips and donations received. Cindy to research further.
-   Den leaders need to make sure the roster is correct and updated. This will be important for purchasing and distributing the pinewood cars at the Nov pack meeting.
-   There will be a Fire Safety Day at the National Scout Museum Oct 8 from 1 to 4. It’s a free event!
-   Clean-up Plano (usually held in April) is holding a t-shirt design contest. Forms are at the library
Blue and Gold
-   Mark Benton starting to put the plan together
-   Possibility of getting space at the Reform Church of Plano for free
-   Discussed concerns from last banquet – maybe less emphasis on prizes and more emphasis on the crossover and awards presentations
-   Mark to put together proposal for review at Oct meeting
Upcoming Dates:
-   Oct 3 – 7: Fall Break
-   Oct 6: Roundtable – Den 3 responsible for attending
-   Oct 11: Pack Meeting planning meeting (Den 7) - Is this still needed and where ?
