Did you go to the SoCal Vintage event? Beautiful cars, all sitting there, standing still, under the beautiful sun. Well now is the time to use those machines the way they were intended: on a twisty road. Here is the drill. The night before, send the kids or pretend to be a kid and go trick or treating. Then eat all the good candy. The following morning, get up VERY EARLY and get ready to burn off all that energy. Bring your 2002, your other Bimmer or whatever else fun. There is no minimum tire tread depth requirement.
IMPORTANT: THE TIME HAS CHANGED. This will be the first day of daylight saving time. That's the good news. But you won't get an extra hour of sleep. That's the bad news. That's because we are moving the meeting time up one hour. But you won't have to get up earlier than usual because your body will still think it's later than it actually is. That's the good news. And we will get back to our families earlier.. That's also the good news. And we will have less traffic. That's more good news.
We will meet in Camarillo and cruise to Ojai. We will stop at the Union 76 station at the corner of the 33 and the 150 in Ojai. You can meet us there if you prefer. We estimate to be there at 6:30 A.M. From there, we will drive north on the 33 to Lockwood Canyon. We'll take a right and proceed to Frazier Park. From there, you can catch the 5 South or do like me, head back and do it all over again. This is a non-competitive event. Each person drives at the speed they are comfortable with. The purpose is to have a good time, improve our driving skills, and make it home safe with no broken or dented parts. Some us will move at a good pace, while others may chose to leisurely cruise and enjoy the scenery. During the drive, the leading car will stop frequently and let the rest of the group catch up. We will have a designated caboose to make sure no one gets lost or left behind due to a mechanical malfunction.
Please email me if you intend on coming. I'd like to have a general count on the number of cars and plan accordingly.
Time: Meet at 5:30 A.M. We will leave at 6:00 A.M. sharp. Please tend to your coffee, your fuel tank and your bladder prior to that. We will get to the 76 station in Ojai around 6:25. We will make a quick pit stop and leave Ojai at around 6:30 AM. Directions to the start-off point. Place: Start of Drive: Mc Donald's off Las Posas in Camarillo. Directions to the drive's start off point: (Google Maps Link.)
(If you prefer, you can meet at 6:30 in Ojai.) Directions below.
From LA and Orange County: (I suggest you meet up in Westlake if you're coming from that direction.) Take the 5 North to the 101 North (West) towards Ventura. Stay on the 101, through Agoura, Calabasas, Thousand Oaks and down the long grade. (Known as the Conejo Grade) Exit Las Posas Road. Take a right at the exit light. You will see the McDonald's on the left.
From Pasadena/Altadena/Morovia. (I suggest you meet up in Westlake if you're coming from that direction.) Take the 210 West (towards San Fernando) Merge on to the 134 West (towards Ventura) Merge onto the 101 North (West) towards Ventura. Follow the directions above. (From LA and Orange County)
From Santa Barbara and further North Take the 101 South towards Los Angeles. If you choose to meet us in Ojai instead of doubling back, you may want to get on the 33 North from the 101. Take the 33 through till you hit the intersection of the 33 and the 150. There will be a fairly large strip mall on your left. Take a left at the light (you will still be on the 33, going straight will put you on the 150, and you cannot take a right) and the 76 station will be on your right. We will leave the 76 station at 6:30 AM. (There is a link below that will take you to Google maps.) If you decide you want to meet at the McDonald's in Camarillo, then continue on the 101 South. Exit Las Posas. Take a left at the exit light. (Over the freeway.) You'll see the McDonald's on the left.
From Santa Clarita, Palmdale Get to the 5 South to the 405 South to the 101 North. (West) towards Ventura Use the same directions as L.A. and Orange County above.
If you prefer to meet us at the 76 station at the intersection of the 150 and 33 hwy, you will most likely drive right by the original meeting point on Las Posas, unless you're coming from the Santa Barbara direction. (See above) It takes about 30 minutes to get from Las Posas to the 76 station in Ojai. Here is the link to Google maps showing the location and giving you the option to search for directions.
