Bird - Building Collisions:

and transport the birds to researchers and rehabbers,
during spring and fall migrations, as part of a effort
.coordinated by the . . .
Wisconsin Humane Society . . .(Contact
Scott Diehl )
with assistance from the .
Urban Ecology Center . .
(Contact . Tim Vargo)
and instigated by the .
Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative .
(Contact . . Bill Mueller ) .
- No previous experience or identification skills are needed.
- To sign up as a volunteer:
- Following some detailed instructions will be mandatory.
- Collection and transport will occur
- on several mornings in spring and fall,
- shortly BEFORE sunrise
- at assigned locations
in downtown Milwaukee.
Following the lead of a successful effort in downtown Chicago to reduce
mortality of birds caused by collisions with buildings and windows,
(see http://www.lightsout.audubon.org
and . http://www.birdmonitors.net)
members of the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative (WBCI) are
conducting a similar program in Wisconsin. The first step is determining
where and how often migrant birds are killed in downtown Milwaukee.
Volunteers are needed to collect these data. .
