1850 Federal Mortality Schedules for Ross Co. Ohio

The 1850 Federal Mortality Schedules are a list of people who died between June 1st, 1849 and June 1st 1850. See the notes at the bottom of the page for more information.

The information below is in the following order.... Name, age, sex, married or widowed, place of birth, month of death, occupation, illness or accident and number of days ill.

The 1850 Mortality Schedules asked the following questions, name of deceased, age, sex, color, free or slave, married or widowed, place of birth, month in which they died, profession, disease or cause of death and number of days ill. It is estimated that the census takers under-reported these deaths by as much as 20%. Never the less they are a valuable resource considering the lack of official death records for the time period.

I have omitted free or slave as all are free. I have also omitted color. You are encouraged to see the original records. Some names were difficult to read. I have done the best I can with this transcription. This is a complete transcription for Ross county. There were a handfull maybe 5 or less I just couldn't read. If I could make a guess I did. The microfilm may be found at the Ohio State Library 274 E. 1st Ave. Columbus, OH 43201. They have an outstanding genealogy section.
