The Inner Planets

The Sun Mercury Venus Earth Mars
The four planets closest to the Sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. They're called the terrestrial planets because they have solid rocky surfaces.

The Outer Planets

Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune Pluto
The four large planets beyond the orbit of Mars are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune and are called gas giants. Super distant, Pluto has a solid but icier surface than the terrestrial planets.
