April Fools
Know any good April Fool’s Day gags? The best prank I’ve heard is one my brother told me. His sister-in-law is a nurse
who trades pranks with the doctor she works for. She got a hold of his car keys, rolled down the window, and placed broken
glass outside the car and in the floorboard. The doctor could not believe his car had been broken into as he drove it to the shop to
have it repaired. The technician took a look down inside the door, hit the window switch, and rolled up a perfectly good window. It
wasn’t an April Fool’s Day prank but it really did happen. Ask me sometime about how the same doctor, an OU alumni and huge
fan, ended up playing golf with his OU buddies, with his clubs and bag completely decorated with OSU paraphernalia.
I’ve known some great pranksters and have been fooled a number of times myself. A good prank on the unsuspecting can be a lot
of fun, but know ahead of time that it will be well received!
This really is an exciting time of year. There are a lot of events coming up that you want to put on your calendar and make plans
for. Saturday morning baseball starts and we are going to have a talent show in April followed by our used book sale, the Arlington
Home School Book Fair, and graduation in May. Then in July, the yearbook signing party is always a fun time of fellowship. I’m
sure everyone is planning summer vacations and HEAD is preparing for the next year. Of course, we don’t want to forget home
school day at Six Flags on April 29
th
!
With the exception of the Arlington Book Fair (if you stock up on curriculum) and Six Flags (which can cost a family a small
fortune – but hey, it’s once a year), all of these events are fabulous, frugal, and fun for the family. Those key words were fabulous,
frugal, fun, and most important, family! For the book fair and Six Flags, just drop the frugal.
Do you see a theme here? Let’s see if I can put this all together…start planning now to have Fabulous, Frugal, Fun, Family
Fellowship by Filling your Family’s Future with un-Forgettable, Feature events with other home school Families! Fantastic!
God bless you and your home school,
Richard
Early Meeting: Teaching with Babies, Toddlers & Pre-Schoolers
Tuesday April 6 at 6:30 p.m. with Sandy
Are you home schooling while also dealing with little ones,
pregnant, nursing, or listening to the sound of little feet? Join
us as we discuss how to home school in this unique situation.
Many of your friends may have two school age children (the
kind that walk, talk, and go potty by themselves) and they may
not understand why some days are just a struggle for you.
Sandy Carlton is the mother of 7 daughters, ages 17, 14, 13, 10,
8, 5, 2. She began home schooling her oldest in kindergarten,
and has always had a baby, toddler, or pre-schooler in her
home.
April Meeting – Topic Change!
Eastfield College – Something for the Whole Family
Do you need some help planning your summer
and fall? You won’t want to miss April’s
monthly meeting. The topic was going to be on
Learning Styles and we hope that we can bring
you that meeting to you in the fall, but for this
month we have guest speakers from Eastfield
College. Mary Ann Fitzsimmons, Program
Director, Continuing Education and Sharron
Wagoner, Dual College Credit Enrollment
Coordinator, will be speaking on the summer
and fall programs for all ages, and the un-graded
and dual college credit courses available at
Eastfield. Eastfield offers programs for all ages,
so whether you want swimming classes for your
infant, tennis lessons for mom and dad, or a
math class for your teen, they will have
something that will interest you. Invite your
friends to this meeting and don’t miss it!
