Information updated of 06/20/2009

The Rochester Area Recumbent Enthusiasts and the Rochester Bicycling Club will host the 10th Annual RARE Recumbent Rally, "The R2K09.10".
The ride is confirmed for June 27th, 2009

RIDE START AT 8am
from the main parking lot of Hamlin Beach State Park

The ride will originate from the Hamlin Beach State Park in Hamlin, N.Y. Tent camping is available on a first come-first serve basis in the group camping area (limited to 30 persons) on the nights of Friday June 26th and Saturday June 27th for $10 (US) per 6 campers. We'll sort that out at or after dinner. per person, per night.
(Vehicles must also pay a gate fee-approx $6 US).
Additional camping sites are available through Hamlin Beach State Park at 585-964-2462. Some additional information for campers is here.

For those not camping, the ride will begin at the main parking area at Hamlin Beach State Park at 8am, Saturday morning.

For 2008 the ride was bumped up to about 80 miles. This year we hope to add a optional loop into Irondequoit before lunch that will allow riders to complete a century. The ride includes flat country roads with low traffic, forested bike path, and riverside vistas, as well as urban experiences in downtown Rochester, with a stop at the Dinosaur Barbeque for lunch. Lunch is followed by more riverside trails, bike paths, and streets, and the return ride includes an ice cream break wherever we can find it, as necessity dictates.

New for 2009: The Century option We've mapped out two optional loops that combine with the main ride from Hamlin to total just over 100 miles. The new loops cover additional paved multi-use trail, rural roads, and city streets. You'll get to see a bit of another Rochester neighborhood (Irondequoit) and travel into the more-rural area west of Hamlin Beach State Park. The Irondequoit loop adds about 12 miles to the pre-lunch section. The Kendall loop adds about 20. See below for links to the maps (with cue notes on each).

There will also be a remote start from the Basil A. Marcella Park on English Rd. in Greece NY that cuts the ride down to a very manageable 30 miles or so. The short ride is on paved multiple-use trails and city streets.
