Here is some information that you will need to know if you are
camping, regarding the registration process at Hamlin Beach State Park.
When you first enter the park by car, you will encounter a kiosk
where you will be asked to pay an entry fee for your vehicle. You
will be given a permit to be placed on your dashboard in the left
corner of your windshield.
Follow the signs for the camping areas. You will pass a building on
your left with a sign that says "All Vehicles Must Stop". Come to
stop when you are even with the viewing window of this building so
that the staff on duty can see the permit on your dashboard. If you
don't stop, the park police are obliged to come find you and see that
you are registered (and give you/us a stern talking to about
following the rules).
If you arrive early or late and the main entry kiosk is not staffed,
continue through to the group camping area where we will be recording
information to register your vehicle and also collecting money from
those who did not pay at the entry kiosk as well as collecting money
for camping permit. The staff of the park has told us that during
those hours you will not be expected to come to a stop at the
registration building. But slowing to see if they are still checking
for permits may not be a bad idea anyway. And if they are checking,
you may need to simply explain to them that there is no one at the
main entry and that you are headed for the group camping area. It's
usually not a problem after hours.
Vehicle registration is $7.00 US and camping is $2.00 US per person
per night. Again, we will be collecting the camping fee, and also the
vehicle fee from those who have not already paid it.
The group camping area is on the right, past the camping loops. Park
on the right, preferably in the asphalted area just at the head of
the group camping area. You may set up your tent on the grassy area
or in the piney woods just north of the parking area.
