New Shower Filters Coming!

Good news, everyone. I've decided to add a few more shower filters to my comparison site. I started getting a bunch of emails from readers asking about one brand or another, so finally decided to bite the bullet and add a few more. I'm not sure which brands or models I'll be adding, but if any of you have suggestions, now would be a good time to make them. I plan on ordering the new shower filters sometime during the next 30 days. Once I get them in hand I'll test them and post the results to my site.

So go ahead and post your suggestions now. As always, I'll do my best to accommodate as many requests as my wallet (and wife) will allow.

I'll also start a new blog post once the new results have been completed.

Is anyone out there or am I just talking to myself? OK, I've officially gone insane. Sorry.

  • saw this filter, called Oxygenics on another web site. any opinion on this one? if not, any possibility that you can look at this one? thanks.

  • Thanks for the input.

I know Oxygenetics makes shower heads, but I didn't know they dabbled in shower filters.

Can you post a link to the website you referred to in your comment? I'd be very interested to see what they have to offer.

  • Have you looked at this link yet? http://www.showerfiltercomparisons.net/Compare_Shower_Filter_Technologies.cfm

Occording to their review on the top 5 shower filters, Jonathan Beauty Water is the best per cost/function. Have you had a chance to test this one? I would be very curious to your findings.

As you probably can tell, I'm still searching for a product that will do what it says and doesn't cost me too much.

Also, are there any shower filters that you have come across that filter out floride too? (not sure if that matters but I know floride isn't good)

    Thanks!

  • Yes, I've seen that site.

That shower filter is actually made by Sun Water Systems, Inc., which also produces the Aquasana shower filter that's already in my comparison. The Johnathan shower filter and Aquasana shower filter are actually one in the same. Sun Water System, Inc. makes these units and allows Johnathan Beauty Products to use their own brand name to sell them at a much higher price. If you're considering the Johnathan version save yourself some money and just buy the Aquasana unit instead. The only difference between the two is the price you'll pay.

You can forget about finding a shower filter that will eliminate, or even reduce, fluoride. Most drinking water purifiers can't remove anywhere near 100% of the fluoride in tap water unless they have some serious upgrades built into them. If anyone is telling you that their shower filter can remove fluoride let me know. I'd be very interested in contacting them and getting the low down.

    Best of luck!

    Thanks.

  • OK, I'm getting a lot of requests for some very expensive, not to mention, extremely questionable shower filters to be considered for my next round of shower filter tests.

Here's a link to a very informative site that has already done extensive research into many of these "magical" devices.

    Gallery of Water Related Pseudoscience

Basically, if you see a shower filter made by a company listed on that page, please don't bother requesting to have it added to my next round of tests.

I really don't see the point in purchasing a bunch of over-hyped and overpriced shower filters only to find out I won't be able to return them for a refund when I'm done testing. Hey, I'm not a wealthy guy you know. I learned that the hard way when I bought those first 8 shower filters already on my site.

So, please check the link above before making any future requests.

I do appreciate all the feedback I've been getting lately. It's good to know there are actually people out there besides me that are interested in this topic.

Well, I guess this means I'm not as crazy as I would first appear. It's either that or my insanity and O.C.D. has begun to rub off on a few more of you.

Anyways, misery sure does love company, so keep those requests coming in. My new shower filter test list for the second round is growing larger each week. I'm hoping to officially get started in about 30 days.

  • great job on your shower filter comparisons...found the information to be very useful. I came across a recommendation for the "April Shower Supreme" shower filter that was recommended by a leading health expert Dr. Sinatra. Have you tested this particular shower filter? Thanks again

  • Hi,

I have been using the Showerwise shower filter for a few years. Up until 6 months ago, it worked fairly well at my old location. When I moved (about 6 months ago), I ordered a new Showerwise filter (they upgraded their model), and I have not had as good as results. My skin is often red and irritated after showering, and my skin and hair is often quite dry. I tried to measure the chlorine levels with a test strip, and came up zero. I am not sure if there is some other chemical in the water that the Showerwise cannot handle now, or perhaps it is because the water is much harder at my new location?

Anyway, was just wondering if you had done any testing on the Showerwise shower filter?

    Thanks so much!

  • Thanks for the info Reviewguy.

Did you happen to note the effects of the filters on water pressure? We have a low pressure shower and I don't know if it'll take it.

    Thanks.

  • I've conducted my own tests and found your results to be dubious. Smells like bias!!!
Who are your checks coming from my friend?

By Anonymous Anonymous, At May 1, 2008 5:16 PM

  • Michele,

I didn't really notice a significant drop in water pressure with any of the shower filter in my comparison, but that's not to say it couldn't happen. The water pressure at my house is pretty high to begin with so a minute drop in pressure wouldn't be noticed anyways.

You may want to think about purchasing a shower head specifically designed to address low water pressure, low water flow problems. They tend to be a little on the expensive side, but might be a worthwhile investment in the long run.

    Best of luck!

  • OK, if I've said this once I've said it a hundred times. If anyone has any data that directly refutes anything I have said on my site, please feel free to share your results with the rest of us.

If you can't contribute anything useful on this topic, please refrain from posting your "I don't trust your results because my tests turned out different than yours" comments without telling us how or why. I get emails like that about once a week and they all have one thing in common. These people always refer to generalities instead of citing specific issues they have with my test results.

By the way, my checks are signed by Google, Inc. through their Adsense advertising program, which doesn't amount to that much anyways, truth be told.

So, who signs YOUR checks, buddy?

Once again, put up or shut up and please stop wasting my time with nonsensical, childish comments and innuendo.

    Blah, blah, blah...
