In 2010, our 11th year, the Institute will present four public performances: two concerts with Classical sized orchestra and two with large orchestra. All Academy conductors will conduct a selection from the repertoire in concert each week. In addition to conducting opportunities at the Academy summer concerts, the Institute faculty may extend an invitation to one Academy graduate to return as a guest conductor with the Bacau Philharmonic to conduct a fully professional concert with fee. Six graduates from years past have been recognized in this way.
The Advanced Conducting Academy gives experienced student and professional conductors the opportunity to work on challenging repertoire under the guidance of veteran professional conductors with decades of teaching experience. This unique mentoring program helps students quickly diagnose and correct technical problems while developing the practical skills needed to conduct a professional orchestra. Each participant will have a minimum of 230 minutes of podium time including full orchestra, sextet and concerts plus daily video review sessions with faculty. All participants will conduct on at least two concerts, and all rehearsals and concerts will be videotaped.
The Conductor as Accompanist
An unqualified success last year, this exciting program returns in 2010! Academy conductors can choose to spend the first week of the Institute mastering the vital skills and techniques every conductor needs to become an effective accompanist. Work with full orchestra and soloist on a concerto you select. See addditional details on the Details and Repertoire pages.
