Updates:

June 2010

Here is your June update:

* Long Course Tee Pads - Tee pads are now complete on the long course. Many thanks to the Charlotte Disc Golf Club for their awesome work.

* Tee Sign Artwork - Artwork has been added to the long tees on the short course, in temporary frames. Permanent frames and posts are planned for the long tees, and also for the long course. The local art teachers and students remain excited about providing their artwork for this unique partnership.

February 2010

Here is your February update:

* 2nd Course - The 2nd course is up and running. This is an advanced course for advanced players. Maps available above. Concrete tees are coming soon.

* Course Conditions - There are lots of sloppy spots on both courses. We saw this same thing last winter/spring. Wear some old shoes and watch where you step!

* Park Gates - Never, EVER, drive around the park gates to access the disc golf course. There have been some incidents of people doing this. Anyone caught doing this will be turned over to law enforcement.

December 2009

Here is your December update:

* 2nd Course - A second course, targeted to more advanced players, is being installed at Elon! The Charlotte Disc Golf Club has been working hard, donating dozens if not hundreds of hours of labor to this longer, more difficult course. Park and Rec, as well as the general public, have also chipped in, and the concrete tee pads are being done by an Eagle Scout candidate. The fairways have all been roughed in, and the baskets have been installed. There is still much work to be done to groom this course, but it is up and playable! Look for scorecards, maps, and more info in the near future.

* Women`s League - The women`s league now plays at Kilborne park. Check the CDGC Forum for more details.

September 2009

Here is your September update:

* Concrete Tee Pads - Concrete tee pads for ALL tees are now complete. Many thanks to the Charlotte Disc Golf Club, members of the community, and also John McClelland from Park and Rec and his staff for their valuable help.

* Scorecards - The scorecard links above have been updated to reflect accurate distances for both the short tees and the long tees. We`ve also listed all holes as `par 3`, at least for now, to avoid the inevitable confusion about par.

* Tee Sign Art - The tee sign art has been changed. The new art is from the Graphic Design class at Ardrey Kell High. Be sure to check it out!

* Tee Signs - It has been decided that the long tees will have tee signs similar to the short tees. Work is underway to create the frames, and to work with our partners at area schools to get more art.

* Aces - In some cities, it is tradition to write your name on the basket when you get a hole-in-one. However, in Charlotte, this is frowned upon. An `Ace Board` has been installed near the practice basket at Elon. So if you get an ace and you want to tell the world about it, sign the Ace Board and be proud!

July 2009

Here is your July update:

* Concrete Tee Pads - Concrete tee pads for the short tees are complete. Many thanks to Eagle Scout candidate Taylor Morgan and the rest of his crew, and also to John McClelland from Park and Rec and his staff for their valuable help. Also, work has begun on concrete tee pads for the long tees.

* Tee Signs - Tee signs have been installed for all the short tees. The artwork will be changed periodically throughout the year to feature art from the 3 area schools.

* Grand Opening - A Grand Opening celebration and youth clinic/tournament is being planned for late summer, probably in September. Stay tuned for more details.

* Mulch - Workers continue to spread out the mulch piles as time allows.

June 2009

Here is your June update:

* Concrete Tee Pads - The remaining tee pads for the shorter tees should be installed this month.

* Tee Signs - Tee signs are up for holes 1-7, 17, and 18. The rest are expected to be installed after the rest of the tee pads go in.

* Poison Ivy - The Charlotte Disc Golf Club and Park and Rec have committed to vigorously fighting the poison ivy. Always be on the lookout for fire ants and poison ivy, especially with young children. Be careful out there.

* Grand Opening - A Grand Opening celebration and youth clinic/tournament is being planned for late summer, probably late September. Stay tuned for more details.

* Mulch - You`ll notice many large mulch piles around the course. These will be spread out later this month to help protect and maintain the areas of bare ground.

May 2009

* Concrete Tee Pads - Thanks to Eagle Scout candidate Taylor Morgan, 9 concrete tee pads have been installed!! Thanks also to all the others who helped make this happen.

* Tee Signs - Tee signs are up for holes 1-7, 17, and 18. The rest are expected to be installed after the rest of the tee pads go in.

* Ants and Ivy - Fire ants and poison ivy have started to appear. Be careful out there. Volunteers, the Charlotte Club, and Park and Rec will try to keep them under control, but please watch out for yourself, and especially for young children.
