Why did Abigail fall in love with Zebulon?

What was your impression of Zeb when you first met him?
When I first saw Zeb in his long coat and boots in 18th century style, I concluded he was eccentric. Of course I'm a history buff so I found his regalia appealing, of course I usually don't fall for eccentric, but there was something enticing and honest about his eyes, his very blue eyes.

He bowed when I introduced myself to him, even kissed my hand. Guess I'm a sucker for a guy like that. I assumed he was an actor and didn't take him too seriously, but then when he showed up on my doorstep and asked me to take a walk with him, I couldn't.

But I was none too pleased with his Confederate money stunt. That waiter was so mad. Can you imagine? He tried to pay the check with Confederate bills. When I asked him why he'd done it, he said it was the only money he had.

Poor thing. I know now that Zeb had been wandering the earth since the end of the Civil War looking for true love now.

What made Zeb different than all the other men in your life?
Zeb is a man not afraid to show his love or his true feelings. He knew he wanted me and nothing mattered. And he respects the work I've done. He's read every one of my novels.

Even many of my graduate students don't make it all the way through my books and he devours everything I write and wants to talk about my historical points and conclusions.

That's true love. When deeply respects what you are and what you believe.

When did you realize you were falling in love with Zeb?
My regret is that I didn't realize it immediately. Zeb always knew of his feelings for me.

This question is hard to answer because there were so many times. I fell for him when I saw the dedication he had for his troubled niece. Then I fell more deeply in love with him when I went with him to Monacan, his family's plantation and saw him cry at the destruction. And then there was the time he tried to defend me from Jamal.
