~ Introduction ~
Hi, Welcome to my Homepage... My name is Gary and I'm
originally from Laupahoehoe on the Big Island of Hawaii. As a teenaged country boy
on the Big Island, I was into bow hunting for wild boar, sheep, and goats. I also did
some free diving/spear fishing, and practiced one of the martial arts (Karate).
After completing two years of trade school in the mid 1960's,
I joined the Navy. While stationed in Sasebo, Japan, I continued practicing Karate
to increase my knowledge and proficiency in the art, and a few years later when I was
transferred to Guam, I learned to SCUBA dive and was quite active in the sport. My
underwater activities included wreck diving, underwater photography, shell collecting,
and spearfishing.
I now reside on the island of Oahu, and my current interests
are gardening, deepsea fishing on my boat, and playing on my PC (web browsing and
working on my webpages).
I adopted the handle "Salty Dog" for three reasons; first,
because I was born in the "Year of the Dog"; second, because I made a 22 1/2 year
career in the U.S. Navy; and third, because during my drinking days, the "Salty
Dog" was my favorite... :)
