SCENES FROM WAGFEST

& a BIG thank you to all the folks at the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation & everyone who helped make this year's Wagfest a success.

SCARL Alumni Specs & her new pack family

Charlene & her new best friend, Bailey.

Maddie didn't want to walk - she wanted to swim with the duckies!

Lizzie, the Bloodhound, didn't want to leave without her picture being taken.

Cinder left the party early in his crate, but for good reason...he gets a new home!

Nothing seemed to bother this guy as he lay watching while his family sold tartan dog items.

SCARL alumni, Susie, dropped by with her people parents to say hello.

The Tutu Duo of Kristin & Maverick were a hit in the park.

A family who wears Hawaiian attire has got to be fun!

SCARL KIDS, Kayla & Andrea Bragg were a huge help with the puppy today!

Oreo looked like she was ready for school!

SCARL Alums Allie & Lucy accompanied their mom, Candice, while she chatted with Jane.

The K-9 unit oversaw the festivities.

Another SCARL alumni stopped by the festivities.  Lindy, (now known as Maddie) we were so happy to see you again!

This pretty SCARL alum, Chloe, relished the moment, getting love from her both her forever mom & her former foster mom!

Long time SCARL KID, Emily,  knows how to kick back and enjoy the day while pup-sitting.

The biggest boy in the park, General,  looked ready to hop on his Harley and drive away.

The Sprayberry clan, Joy Lynn, Debra, & Emily, took part in the walk in the park.

UPDATE!!!

I have been meaning to write to you for so long now. We adopted Khaki and

Amber, who is now known as Lexi, from SCARL in the fall of last year. I'm

happy to tell you they are doing wonderfully and we are very happy with

them. Even though in the past week they've managed to demolish a bean bag

chair and a feather stuffed pillow! I do wish they would pick easier

things to clean to demolish. LOL

We go to the dog park every weekend if it doesn't rain. They are both very

friendly and get along with everyone. They are just now showing an interest

in birds and squirrels. They both weight 52 lbs now and the vet says they

still have more growing to do. We really could not be happier and love them

very, very much. Lexi likes to sleep on the floor so she can keep an eye on

her cats (we have 2) and Khaki likes to sleep in our bed. Please let

Deborah know he has remained a cuddler and loves to hug and give kisses.

I'm attaching a few photo's of them thru the past few months. Please feel

free to share them in your newsletter. We tell everyone who asks where we

got them and how happy we are they are a part of our family.

Sincerely,

Deborah Bordner, Jairo Baltazar and Kherenskhy

Thanks, Greyson!

UPDATE!!!

Since we recently celebrated Ocho turning one, I thought I would send

a photo to you. As you can see, he is SO big. It feels as if he has

always been a part of our family and we love him to pieces. No more

accidents, it has been months, and I think we will never change his

food or his litter!

Thanks so much for sharing Ocho will our family!

You Go, Girl!!!

Not only did Georgine Clontz write an article, or, um... submitted an article written by her dog, Shoe Button, last month, but she has also been profiled in the June 2008 NARFE magazine for Federal Employees.  Way to go Georgine!

UPDATE!!!

Have not sent you an update in quite a while and thought I would drop you a line about Lucy (aka Panda).  She is 6+ months old now and weighs about 35+ pounds but does not look like it.  She is still long and lean and very playful.  She has a strong "whip-it" like tail.  She has a long tongue and loves to lick you.  She and Ella play much better now, especially outside in the yard.  She has a love for socks and loves to get treats.  She has trained very well.  She sleeps in a large crate - we had to upsize that quite quickly.  She goes in her crate to sleep sometimes during the day on her own which tells me she likes her crate.  She adores my husband who has been the main trainer.  He takes them both on walks several times a week.

Attached are some recent pictures of Lucy.

Do cats dream?

As do humans, cats alternate phases of deep and light sleep.  Dreaming occurs during the deep sleep phase.  During a cat's deep-sleep phase, the give-away is movement of his paws and claws, twitching of his whiskers, and flicking his ears.  Sometimes he vocalizes.

UPDATE!!!

Just got your muttrags and we love 'em.  She wore the patriotic one to the dog park this morning! Thanx
so much for the seasonal set. I am thinking of getting a set of those for my vet. She has a black lab and am
guessing xtra large for her.  If I decide to, can you charge me and ship to her? I will post a pic of Kaci
wearing them on website.

...

As promised, here are the graduation pix.

TENDER HEARTS
(A Tribute to Volunteers)
By Dee Clair

I greet each day inside my cage
And wait for God to write my page
I wonder if you’ll come today?
And let me feel the light of day

My whole life has been dark with pain
And those who caused it--what did they gain?
They stole my trust, my livelihood
And all because they simply could

I yearn to run through scented fields
Without a cage and lock to yield
To chase a squirrel that can't be caught
To earn a love that can't be bought

But the darkest days have a light
In the quiet mornings that follow night
You come to visit every day
Without a motive, without a pay

You carried me when I was weak
Brought trust I was too pained to seek
You healed my wounds that took their toll
You rescued my slowly dying soul

And now I listen for your voice
Knowing that you're here by choice
You didn’t know me at the start
And yet I’m planted in your heart

I’m learning to accept your praise
And not avert my fearful gaze
Forgive me if I cower still
My life has been against my will

I feel that you are growing tired
Within this fight that you’ve been mired
If you can keep your doubts at bay
It would mean the world if you could stay

I can’t predict how this will end
But I know this of you, my friend
You selflessly all played your part
You saved me with your tender heart
