Keep It Simple!

Code in a way that you won't have to keep relearning how to do it.

Design for the weakest line - 800 x 600 resolution - low-speed line.

Keep all files in the same directory on your computer and on the server.

Use DOS-type lower-case file names without hyphens and underlines.

Use dark type and light backgrounds. Avoid busy backgrounds.

Use relative sizing of fonts and page widths.

Specify image sizes and use the most efficient (.gif vs .jpg).

Dont't underline anything that isn't a link..

Put the index at the top of the page - not the bottom.

Check your work on other peoples' machines.

Don't send people away.

Don't use cutesy graphics for the sake of using cutesy graphics.

Don't use complex fonts for the sake of using complex fonts.

Website maintenance is a pain in the ass.
