Steve's interest in weather and disasters
started when he was in elementary school. He has spent over twenty-five years in
the emergency services and presently manages the Technical Services Division for
Guilford Metro 911. He continues to serve as a Skywarn severe weather spotter
and works closely with the National Weather Service to identify
and report severe weather.
Steve has developed
various weather safety programs and routinely shares his message
of preparedness and crisis leadership with civic groups and organizations. He is
also a volunteer for the American Red Cross and active in Ham Radio as a member of the
Guilford County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES).
Steve
enjoys teaching and has been an adjunct instructor for the
North Carolina Community College
system since 1988. He has taught courses at the Emergency Management Institute in
Maryland and presented at the International Association of Emergency Managers'
Conference.
Steve received a Bachelor of Arts degree from
Guilford College in 1986, a Graduate Certificate in Community Preparedness and
Disaster Management from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 2004
and a Masters of Science in Emergency Management from Jacksonville State University in
Alabama in 2008. Steve
