This
web site was designed to offer seasonal resources to leaders in the Orlando
area. There are monthly themes,
local events, and seasonal activities all tied to Girl Scout Program Goals. I attempt to offer something for each
program level on my pages, leaving it up to the leader to select what is age
appropriate for her troop.
You
are welcome to share the information on my web site within our Girl Scout
family for the purpose of expanding the program offered to our girls. I only ask that you acknowledge my web
site and include any sources that I might provide. I have done my best to give credit to the author of material
I pass on, however many times this is not available. I also make use of
quotation marks to signify direct quotes from the author’s works. Should you discover the author of
material I have listed anonymously, I invite you to contact me so that I may give
appropriate credit.
I’ve
included numerous links on my pages to assist you in obtaining more details on
a topic of interest to you. I hope
to review these links annually and will note the last update at the bottom of the
page for your reference. Should a
link not be in working order, please contact
me so that I might correct it.
In following Safety Wise guidelines,
also note that by exiting my site through these links releases me from
responsibility for their content.
A few links provided for older girl or leader reference may not be
suitable for younger girls.
Advertisements that may appear on some of these sites do not imply
endorsement by myself nor any part of the GSUSA organization. In addition, I
feel that I should add that I am not a paid council employee, but a volunteer
sharing knowledge from experience and contacts I’ve made over the
years. I do not speak for GSUSA or
GS of Citrus Council. Their
policies (of course) override any oversight or misinterpretation I may
inadvertently make on this website. Please refer to the disclaimer at the
bottom of my home page. (I think
that should about cover it…)
Where
it all started (for those interested)….
As
my unit’s Registrar and Older Girl Consultant, one of the ways that I
hoped to make a difference in the low retention rate of older girls was by
offering support and program assistance to my local leaders by e-mail. My unit
was recognized as having the highest retention rate in our council a few years
later! J That award validated both my efforts and that of the
Sunburst Service Team, and encouraged me to continue in this area. Since 1998, my mailings have increased
to weekly and my mailing list has expanded to include leaders from other units
in my W/NW Seminole GS Association.
During this time I also began sending articles on my weekly topics to
the Scouting Links Newsletter, which has an audience of over 4,000. After others within the Citrus Council
area showed an interest in my work, I decided to provide the information on the
internet, and “Scouting For
All Seasons” was born in 2003.
My
material comes from 5 years experience offering support to GS leaders while
holding positions on the service team, 8 years as a GS troop leader, 6 years
involved in leadership positions within boy scouting, and a general enjoyment
for sharing with others what I have learned. In addition, I pass along information that has been shared
on numerous scouting related internet lists. I do my best to offer Girl Scout
references from Safety Wise, program level books, and link topics to GSUSA
sites when I can.
A
special hug and thank you to:
-
Dave for motivating me to attempt this endeavor and setting up the programs,
-
Amy for giving me my first html lesson and sharing the great html guide she put
together to use as a reference tool,
- Mike for helping me set up my home page and “waving his magic fingers over the keys” when he hears my call for help,
-
My readers who have taken the time to share how my efforts have made an impact
on the program they provide to our girls!
I
hope that you find this web site helpful.
Since you’ve stopped in for a visit, I know that you are a caring
volunteer looking for ideas to expand the experience for your girls. Always remember that your time and
efforts towards the Girl Scout goals are greatly appreciated. You are making a difference! Thank you for joining us as we work
towards assuring that “scouting IS for all seasons” J
