MCLA vs NCLL

The NCLL is the National College Lacrosse League.  Club teams are formed at such

schools as Syracuse, that have an NCAA program. They also have teams from school

like Kent State that have only a club program.  They have been around for over 25 yrs,

hosting leagues and tournaments, primarily in the east coast w/some mid west and south.

Their by laws can be viewed on their website. http://www.ncllax.com/downloads.php

The MCLA is the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association.  They exist as club as well but

usually are teams at schools where only the Club exists. All the PAC 10 teams are MCLA.

Although they have not been around 1/2 as long, they have developed a reputation for

bringing their top 10 relatively close, if not equal to NCAA quality play.  Their by laws

seem a little tougher.   http://mcla.us/

In comparing the popularity of the two, I believe the MCLA has intentions of helping it's

teams move to the NCAA. Whereas an NCLL Syracuse Club team already has an NCAA

program therefore they wish to remain at club level.  It is this distinction that leads me to

believe the MCLA has surpassed the NCLA in popularity.  Basically.....everyone wants

NCAA status for various reasons.  School  financial support is likely the primary one.

Offering Scholarships and pay for coaches is likely in the top 5 as well.

The question is.......what fits your team?  Popularity of the MCLA has made it an

administrative beast that requires a substantial amount of funding from a team of 25.

It has become almost exclusive in nature for some teams.  I believe for this reason, much

of the Midwest teams go with the NCLL.  I think grow would faster if there were a West

Coast division (currently there is not).   Hmmm Food for Thought.
