The security and home automation that is presented on this web site is a compilation of
many systems each system will work as a stand alone system but can be
combined to achieve what ever you have as a goal. I will present this information
in the fallowing way. 1) I will lie out a full home automation scenario,
while attempting to keep the follow of information linear if possible. 2)I have put
index links at the top of each page to take you to specifics with in that system at the end of
each system there is a home link to the top of this page with the main index links.
3) I will have links within the site that will take you to pertinent web sites by
opening a new browser window making it easier to return.

About Security I.D.E.A.S.

Because the security industry is built on trust and will always be that way. I am compelled to talk about why it is necessary for a security company to honor trust as the first tenant of a customer relationship. Simply put we have too much knowledge that cannot be divulged to any one for any reason, and I do take that responsibility strongly, that is what you’re paying for. Any one can sell you equipment and install it if they have the ability but systems like these are meant to give comfort and peace of mind – Can you trust your installer?

Experience is a quality that cannot be faked and will always show in the final result of any project. I have worked in the security installation business for twenty years now and have worked on many of the most challenging homes in Orange, San Diego, Riverside, and Los Angeles counties.

Security systems have evolved over the past ten years and now can do more than just set off a siren. I have been looking for an alarm panel that would fit my dreams of a truly useful system. I found it in the “ELK-M1 Gold “ made by ELK. Every year for the past five years 2002-2007 I have gone to the ISC convention in Las Vegas and talked to all of the alarm manufacturers and every year ELK came to the trade show with things that I wanted in my dream system. Here they are: internet access to the alarm, the ability to use a proximity card to arm the system or to trip a relay for door/gate access, the ability to use the house phone or call the alarm system form out side the home and check conditions and operate it. I wanted to have control of lighting that could be turned on as a result of zone conditions or time of day.

The features that have been implemented in this alarm system make it possible for the fallowing scenario. You can leave your house close the door and take only a card with you, when you go for a jog. Yes, no more keys slide the card in your pocket or sock and when you return just present it to the card reader at the front gate. The latch will open and you then go to the front door present the card at that reader the latch will open and turn the system off. If you got back after sun set the entry light will turn on and as you move into the living room the motion detector that would normally trigger an alarm will turn on the living room lights. There are other scenarios that are just as interesting and could be valuable to you. Lets for the sake of discussion say that just before you come home from work you use your work computer and set the temperature in the house to 71 degrease and turn on your Jacuzzi heater to be ready after dinner.

Because we are using a powerful system we can have it call your cell phone and give a voice message or send a text message to you when the alarm code that was given to a child is used, letting you know when he or she comes home. This used to only be possible with opening and closing reports being sent to a monitoring station and was not cost effective for most homeowners. Many of the possibilities can and should be talked about at a face to face meeting, simply because I could spend to much of your time having you read all possible scenarios.

What is Home Automation?
At Leviton, we believe that enabling new technologies to customize and schedule common
lifestyle activities performed everyday is beneficial in any home. Simply stated, quality home
automation makes life easier. Controlling lights with single-button scene control and
zone control add new dimensions to a lighting system—a dimension you can’t achieve
with a solo dimmer on the wall. In fact, home lighting automation is one of the most powerful
methods Interior Designers use to change moods in a room.
Every room in the home benefits from home control and home automation. Here’s just a few
examples of popular applications:
Kitchen and Dining Room: Create scenes for the different tasks such as dining, cooking and cleaning.
Home Theater and Media Rooms:
Create a dramatic “dim the lights before the show” integrated with your home theater system.
Master Bedroom: Control zones of lights from the bedside to turn ON and OFF lights outside,
downstairs or throughout the entire home.
Landscape and Garden: Schedule when the garden path lights turn ON and OFF, or combine all the
outdoor lights to activate at once for security.
Staircase and Hallways: Ensure safety by turning on lights at appropriate lighting levels
throughout the day and night.
Living Room: Add elegance and intimacy. Lighting is one of the most powerful methods Interior
Designers use to change moods in a room.
Family Room and Great Rooms: Select a lighting scene for one person to read a good book, or
the entire family to celebrate a birthday party.
Home automation is about delivering practical control of your lighting, home and personal
lifestyle. Leviton’s two lines of residential home automation products, Vizia™-RF and Decora®
Home Controls (DHC) establish powerful levels of control and customization—which
allow Leviton to be the leader in home automation products that
installers, builders and homeowners trust.

Built-in Voice Announcements

It's not necessary to rely on beeps and flashes with the M1 Gold. The voice announcement
feature provides clear alerts and announcements, providing detailed information on alarms,
zone descriptions, and status of areas. With a 500-plus-word/phrase vocabulary, you can link
up to six words and phrases per announcement, and with an additional 10 custom-recordable
words/phrases, you'll find this communications system to be extremely user-friendly. The
integrated voice dialer also uses vocabulary or custom words and phrases.

Keypads and Phone Remote Control

The built-in telephone remote control makes any phone a keypad. While the M1 Gold is
expandable to support up to 16 LCD keypads, the system's included flush-mount keypad features
a backlit, large-character LCD of 16 x 2 lines, which displays the system's diagnostics and
settings. Between its menu navigation keys and its six programmable function keys, programming
the display of time, date and temperature is made easy. On each keypad, one zone input and one
output are programmable. Additional keypads and blue-backlit keypads are available to be
purchased separately. And if you want the keypads to be flush-mounted in your walls, you will
need the Flush Mount Kit. The M1 Gold Kit is also available with a keypad with 6 programmable
buttons.

Expansion Units Available

Add up to twelve 16 hardwired zones to your M1 Gold with the M1 16 Zone Input Expander.
Looking to add wireless receivers? Use the M1 Cable to NX Wireless. Additional units that can
be purchased separately include the M1 Databus Hub and the M1 Relay Board.

Connection Options

The M1 Gold uses a true V.22 bis modem for fast, reliable information uploading and
downloading. You'll have the options of dial-up, Ethernet or local access from the RS-232 port
or house phone jack; an automatic answering machine bypass is included, as is the RJ31X jack
so that your M1 Gold system will be able to dial out in the event of an emergency.

Installation Price Form

Installation prices vary depending on the amount of equipment that is needed to secure your home or business. An alarm system at the minimum should consist of the following: (one keypad) to operate the system, (contacts on all accessible openings) to detect entry, (one interior device) to back up the perimeter security, (one alarm compatible smoke detector). There are other concerns that should be noted such as whether you would like to have an English display key pad or numeric display. Does the premises have inside pets? If so please note, that depending on the type of pet, infrared motion detectors should not be used. There are however comparable substitute devices. Most systems will allow the premises to be divided in to areas called zones, typically there are six zones on an alarm system if you need to have more please let me know in the text box below. After entering the pertinent information click on submit, this will send the information to my Email address. I will reply within 24hrs.
This form is meant to be a preliminary contact.

All systems include: - Siren - backup battery - AC transformer - Built-in Phone dialer - Programming - and a one year parts and labor warranty.
