This is very nice student project. The student made it because his wife was having a baby and he wanted to give her a special gift. He bought the wood himself and wound up short about 6" on one of the side boards due to a defect in that board. This was solid cherry and he thought he needed to purchase more wood. I told him no problem because we had a scrap piece of cherry long enough to replace the defect in the board. That was when I taught him that it was possible to join two boards together end to end in order to lengthen two short boards into one board long enough to complete the project. You could barely tell that there was a joint.
This is a real specialty item that one of my students made with my assistance. It is a birdhouse that was donated to a charity.
This is another student creation. It is a computer desk and work station, designed by Foy Biggers. He needed a lot of area to spread out his work. Building the desktop was no easy matter, because we needed to make the 2" thick Red Oak edge meet the curve of the 3/4" thick Formica top with no seams showing. It took the Innovative and creative knowledge of James C Hopp to come up with the how to build it, but that is a trade secret he would be glad to share with you.
  Latest Student Project completed 9/30/2004.
