Kennel Story
|
I bought my first Mini Schnauzer because I liked the look of the breed and because they don't shed. Like most folks, my first dog was of backyard breeding, but I was lucky in that we accomplished a lot together in only a few years. "Magnum" - OTCh Sonny's Sir Magnum Brandt became the breed's 11th Obedience Trial Champion. I was fortunate to find an obedience instructor who instilled in me a desire to win, the importance of good, sound training and strong ideals on breeding good temperaments, and sound dogs. |

My next Miniature Schnauzer was a bitch out of champion parents and from a reputable breeder with many years of experience. This breeder was very patient when I decided to try to show this dog and showed me some basics on grooming and handling. "Joy" - Ch. Dimensions Delightful Joy became the foundation for my Southcross Schnauzers kennel. While "Joy" was being shown, I learned a lot from a bad experience with a well-known terrier handler. The experience made me determined to finish my own dogs. I learned a lot about what it takes to condition, train, groom and show a dog that is competitive. Because I wanted tougher dogs with more attitude than I got from my first litters, I tried a different approach in breeding. The first litter afterwards resulted in my Ch. Southcross Better Luv Nextym, U.D. I have been committed to producing dogs that can make great obedience dogs, competitive conformation dogs, as well as very "liveable" pets. I keep very few dogs, and breed only once every 15 months to three years. I place champion adults in pet homes if they are not top obedience and/or breeding prospects. Pet puppies are sold only on AKC Limited Registration. |
