Here I am with my spectacular 1998 harvest- it's tough to find a scale to handle fruit such as these! The big one tipped the scales at an astounding 4 pounds! I planted some store-bought Atlantic Giant (AG) seeds in the garden that the previous house owners had layed out. I did use composted cow manure, and Miracle Gro fertilizer. This is what happens when you grow AGs in a spot in your yard that starts getting first sun at 2:30 PM. These were the smallest fully mature Atlantic Giants brought tothe Clarence, NY weighoff in 1998- I left them on the dashboard! Needless to say, I've done MUCH better in later years!
Feb. 2002 addenda: I just went into Harris Garden Center, the same place where I bought the seeds that I grew in 1998. Feeling the seeds through the packet, they were the smallest AG seeds I'd ever seen. That thought brought back a memory- when I was going to grow the Harris Seeds' AG seeds back in 1998, I had the SAME THOUGHT, and I now remember driving all across town to all the other branch stores to see (feel through the package) how big their seeds were. They were all the same size, and not being experienced in AG growing, I used them. In hindsight, and now having personally handled seeds from over 170 different REAL Atlantic Giant fruit, I now realize that these Harris Seeds being sold as AGs are most likely NOT real AG seeds. They're just too small and thin. Even real AG seeds I have from hundred pounders are much bigger. This would explain my pitiful results above in 1998 in spite of other factors. I would advise getting seeds from other growers.
