Team Rafiki: Mission to Rural Tanzania
Working
with an Albany based local 501c3 nonprofit, African Reflections Foundation, (Fed
tax ID: 20-1621143) to bring our support to villages in Tanzania
which are in need of the most basic life sustaining assistance. Children in the
villages have only a small amount of food per day, which they receive in the
evening, after returning home from an 8 to 10 mile walk from school. Most have
no shoes. Many cannot attend school because they lack school uniforms and basic
school needs. The school buildings themselves are made of mud, and the heavy
rains create gaping hopes in the walls. The cost of wood is prohibitive to
people who are struggling to just survive, so the schools have no desks - children sit on cement floors all day long while trying to concentrate on their
lessons. Many of these 600 children have never held a crayon. Pencils are cut
into thirds so that most children have a small writing tool. Babies are in need
of clothing and blankets. Basic medical care is nonexistent. Food is scarce. Team
Rafiki traveled to these rural areas in November 2008. We are planning to return
in August, 2009. We are in great
need of support from fellow humanitarians. If you are interested
in contributing any of the items on our list, we will assure you that each and every
donation will be delivered to the villages. All team members are volunteers,
each paying his or her own expenses. Our goal is do to as much as we can to
share our hearts and our hands with people who are eagerly reaching out for
help. Any small donation here can be life saving there. Rafiki
means "Friends" in Swahili. Help us to share our many blessings with our new
friends in Tanzania. Thanks for your support! |
