Team
Rafiki is actively working with a Saratoga Springs,
New York, based local 501c3 nonprofit, The
Giving Circle, to bring our support to street orphans in Jinja, Uganda who
are in need of the most basic life sustaining assistance. Jinja is a typical
Africa community characterized by lack of clean water, poor sanitation, abject
poverty, a high number of young orphans, and yet a wonderful sense of hope,
spirit, and love of family and friends. The Koi Koi project will be a self sustaining home for street
children who have been orphaned. This home encompasses not only living quarters,
but also agricultural and livestock projects to support the needs of the
residential children and their caretakers. Crops not consumed will be sold in
the local market to further the self sustaining goals of this project. Koi Koi house will initially support 44 orphans. The children will
receive daily meals, clothing, shoes, medical care, clothing - and most of
all, a loving family environment. When ready, each child will be transitioned to
a local foster care family, who will be supported through this project. Another
of the more than 200 Jinja street orphans will be moved into the orphanage to
continue this cycle of growth and development. As an extension of this project, we initiated a paper bead jewelry
and additional craft
projects for the local women to provide them with a healthy means of supporting
their children and to restore their dignity and self esteem. Koi
