Who We Are: In
the African language of Swahili, Rafiki means friends. Team Rafiki is just that,
a dedicated group of volunteers who freely give their time and energy to help
improve the quality of life for those in great need. Our
Rafiki symbol is the Andinkra symbol that originates from members of the Ashanti
tribe in Ghana. The symbol "Sankofa" is from a proverb which translates as
"Learning from past experiences to build the future." Our
project goals encompass bringing practical assistance, education, hope, and
positive change to those with whom we work side by side. These men, women, and
children help us to accomplish the joint initiatives which we identify together
when planning and executing the changes they wish to see. Raising global
awareness of the serious situations that lead to a failure to thrive is also an
ongoing component of our work. Our
team has been actively working in Africa since 2004. Our members have
volunteered in several national and international communities such as Zimbabwe,
Tanzania, and Uganda, Africa. The Team partners with not for profit
organizations, which provide the direct link to the community and the local
support for our physical project work sites.
