Daryl's Bio
Daryl began playing guitar and singing at church and family get-togethers when he was about 13 or 14 years of age. Although he never intended to take his music any further than this, when he was asked to join the
Herb Adams and The Sidekicks band in the late 1970's, he nervously agreed. For the next year, or so this group enjoyed playing for local shows and events, such as the Wright State Jamboree, and the Piqua Heritage Festival. They also appeared a couple of times on the live WYSO radio show, "Walkin' In The Parlor", which was broadcast from Antioch College in Yellow Springs Ohio. When that band "dis-banded", Daryl joined with three other local musicians to form the bluegrass band, Marcel's Moving Company. This group performed together throughout the Miami Valley until February of 1991, when one of the members relocated to North Carolina.
From the time that this band broke up until about 2002 Daryl remained active in music by playing with a couple of jam bands and attending local jam sessions. At that time he re-united with a former band mate from the Herb Adams band, Craig Shaffer, and they began working toward forming a new band. With the addition of Randy Bennett in early 2004, they became Sugargrove.
Some of Daryl's greatest musical influences were Hank Snow - Lefty Frizzell - John Denver - Bill Monroe - Johnny Cash - Merle Haggard - Bob Dylan - Jim Reeves - Charlie Waller - John Duffy and Marty Robbins, to name a few.
