Minutes of Southwest Chess Club

Annual Meeting

March 19, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 PM by President Joe Crothers. 12 members were in attendance. Joe began with an update of our location situation. Minutes of the last annual meeting were read by the secretary Sheldon Gelbart and were approved.

The treasurers report was read by Robin Grochowski and approved. Revenues came from club tournaments, selling shirts and sweatshirts ( which were substantially increased ) member dues and video and DVD rentals. Expenses included donations to St. James Church, tournament prizes, the purchase of shirts, new DVDs and chess books for the club library.  Miscellaneous expenses included the club Christmas party, announcements in Chess Life, affiliation with the USCF and general supplies.

The Library and equipment report was read by Andrew Grochowski and was approved.

Robin Grochowski read the report written by Allen Becker stating that the club website was updated and distributed a new schedule He asked for updated e-mail addresses and phone numbers so that members might receive communications on upcoming tournaments. He said that the club newsletter was replaced by the website and our blog. Business cards are available and new ones with the current address are in preparation.

Vice President Tom Fogec read a report of the year’s 19 tournaments with 1435 players and revenues generated.

President Joe Crothers announced that the club had 72 members in 2007. He reported that 56 members have completed renewal forms so far this year. Joe also encouraged members to return tables to their original positions and to remove litter upon departure.

New Business

- Prize winners for Thursday night Grand Prix tournament were announced.

- Tom Fogec proposed continuing the summer lecture series, to begin the first week of June. Tom also thanked Sheldon Gelbart and Allen Becker for community contributions.

-  A request by Polish Fest was not yet received but s expected.

- Matches with other chess clubs were discussed.
