Soda and beer came in wooden cases. |

|
| 24 bottles to a case. And the caps required an opener to remove them. There were no twist top caps then. The caps were metal with a cork insert in them to seal the bottle. You could take the empties back to the store and get the deposit back for the bottles and the wooden case. The wooden case got you 10 cents and you also received 2 cents for each bottle. That was good money then. Beer and soda were not made in cans then, only bottles. As a fun thing to do as kids, we would take the bottle caps out of the trash and carefully remove the cork insert from the cap in one piece. Then we would hold the cap on the outside of our shirt and from the inside of the shirt press the cork back into the bottle cap. This would hold the cap to the shirt and it would look like you had a badge on your shirt. |
