Shaving was a little more of a challenge |
|
|
| The old straight edge razor was rather crude but did the job. Perhaps that's why so many men had beards years ago . The barber would strop the razor, that is stroking it back and forth on a leather strap to hone an edge that would easily split a hair. The razor strap, as it was called, was attached to the side of his chair and he would strop it before each use. Barbers today still use the straight edge razor when you go in for a shave. With the advent of the safety razor more guys shaved. When the blade became dull you just changed it out for a new one. This made it easy for most anyone to shave. |
